Tractor shed

Customer had us build this yesterday. Tried to get him to build it big enough to get the whole tractor in......just don't understand folks sometimes. House was near a million bucks, not a cheap tractor, land pride finish mower and rotary cutter that won't all go in shed. Saved a few bucks.

Everything you said plus, I cannot believe anyone would hire something like that done. The daughter and I could build that in an afternoon. :)

Rich folks who " can't" do anything keep me in business. Lol. Took me and my wife 5 or 6 hours. So many tree roots the auger was near useless.

Kevin, how about a road trip? I need to build a 60 x 30 addition on my barn. Even have a Ford tractor you could play with.

Not surprised. When I worked for Central Tractor many years ago the people that drove brand new dually pickups would beat us up over price far worse than the guys that did not have two dimes to rub together. In your case the lady of the house may have issued an edict over the amount spent. I found some guys were easier to deal with when the wife was not along. Also, I have seen some pretty poor planning by ordinary joe's. Guys who could not build a big enough building for what was already there that they planned on putting inside with money being no problem.

This guy is divorced and bragging about how much money he throws away on stuff he doesn't need! Absolutely could not sell him on a bigger shed.

I still would go with what I previously said for most people but some are flat out strange. There are a couple guys I know that if they did that it was because "that's how grandpa would have done it" and they would have complained about the tractor not being fully covered just like grandpa did.

Any particular building permit laws in the area? Looks like a 8 x12 shed, 96 square feet and that means under 100 sq/ft limit in some places that requires building permits and inspections for larger structures. Had a couple little building projects where larger meant a bunch of paperwork, current concern for small homestead has 200 sq/ft or bigger needs building permit, under does not so last years shed project was about 8x14. If no legal restrictions- then another 4 foot wide front bay section could be put on next summer after wet tractor nose causes some concern. Maybe hang a tarp on front to half drape over front of tractors, plenty of blue floppy shed doors in many country neighborhoods.
Looks like pole shed built to stock size 4x8 panel size walls, roof is the sheet metal standard 8 to 12 footers? Quick and cheap building plan used? Something like that in Wisconsin would be used for sheep, horse and calf shelter, open side to south or east, wind break with some straw on floor and come spring use composted floor diggings for garden - what I did on small sized shed used for ram shelter placed next to garden fence. Ram shelter was fixed up and reinforced (rams do play with hard horns against walls) with mostly stock sized lumber, metal and plastic panels small stock sized that would fit in back of pickup.

Yup, makes a guy wonder. But one thing for sure is ....... anything (and I mean ANYTHING in capital letters) that a person decides to do with his own property, chattels or money is open to dissection on the YT Tractor Talk forum.

(quoted from post at 09:05:04 01/20/18) Oregon? Might be fun!

You can stop in WA on the way out and help me put up a 40 x 84 polebarn....have all the equipment, just getting hard to find good help.

morning kevin, when you go to arlens be sure to bring the big trailer so you have room for the ford on the trip home  I run into the same thing over and over kevin in my business repairing welders, I had one customer call and order over $3000.00 in chrome work for his welder (covers, doors, panels) and when it came in I called him and he brought his welder in, we installed all the new chrome pieces, fired up the welder and I heard a knocking sound!! shut it down and went looking, the water pump bearing was shot! advised the customer we need to change it out NOW. if that piles up it will send the fan, fan hub and shaft through the rad. I gave him a price of $150.00 to change the pump now or if he left it it could cost him up to $1200.00 or more. "OH NO HE SAID IT WILL BE FINE" been running like that for a long time  11 days later he was back for a new pump, rad, fan, fan belt, and 8 hours labour $1500.00  as my good friend tim told me "john there is no cure for stupid". and i'll bet money you'll be back there building a new tractor shed. all we can do kevin is give them our best advice, and I never argue with them, just bill them!! john.

4x4 treated post. Building is 12 x16. Plywood siding. 2x6 rafters. Metal roof. 14' long ,saves cutting. No permit on " open " structure. In that county.

Eldon, same thing here. No help worth a darn or no pride in their work. I send him with a blue tractor and you can give him an orange one. You could also get Bryce and Casey to help. Be contributing to Casey's education.

I think RN likely has the best explanation. 121 sq. ft. where I am requires a permit, setbacks, inspection, etc. 120 sq. ft. does not.

That being said though, the county will only know about it if a neighbor complains or you have other projects going on that have building inspectors coming by.

It will fit fine if he can drive that thing, then block the loader and put the ZTR under it.

I'm liking that little portable post hole digger. I have a three point unit but for 4+ holes taht looks pretty handy. Who makes it?

Permitting in Alabama varies from no permit for anything to permitting any construction. Home builders license required if project value is greater than 10k. Lots of contractors ignore this law.

Well I guess at least the seat will be dry! The tractor is going to look funny in a few years with just half the paint faded. By the way you and the wife do some nice work.

It's a Ground Hog. We bought it used from Home Depot tool rental. Comes with a tow hitch ,if you are brave enough to tow it! I load it in box trailer. We do a good bit of residential work, can't use a 3 point one on sod!

Darn! After looking at the map and figuring up fuel cost,we ain't gonna make it to OR and WA. Sorry guys. But if y'all buying fuel..............lol

Rumor has it more licensed
contractors are turning in the
guys that try to get away with
doing big jobs. Can't blame em,but
don't like it . I have had to turn
down 2 decks since Christmas
because they were well over 10
grand.

Yep. We have 6",8",&12". It's a
lot easier to operate than the big
2 man auger. It's got reverse too
,less getting stuck

C'mon, you can just pretend it is a vacation!

You should suggest that they put one of those leaverd "over hang" type of roofs on the front. Will add some character to it and solve most of the sins. MHO.

Yea, but look how good it would be on a resume if you ever needed one. Geez, I flew to NY to pick up a Ford truck and a fuel injected Trans Am. Didn't make a lot of money but, sure met a lot of nice people on the way home.

Check google maps aerial views of your property. They have enough resolution that I can count the turtle vents on my roof. They take the photos before the trees leaf out. It would be hard to hide a 120 square foot shed.
