He dont cut no firewood in the winter! Crazy new yorkers dont know when wood cuttin should be done.

I agree to that. Cutting fire wood in summer is for the birds lol. Im looking at 35 degree temps today and about 8" of snow. It's gonna be a beautiful day to cut a few loads of wood. Next fall it will be nice and dry bark falling off ready to burn. I do get it that some people have a tough time working in the cold and snow. Each to their own I guess.

I am a fair weather wood cutter. I cut my wood in a Tee shirt in the summer so I can work in my shop in a Tee shirt all winter.
I had to laugh back when the break from the cold came along a week back. I looked out my shop window and down the road all bundled up goes several of the cousins and uncles with 3 tractors and a pickup to cut firewood. Both uncles ran out of firewood for their houses. They had many days this fall after harvest that they could have been cutting wood. Hope they don't have a chimney fire with what they cut.

I about froze too many times cutting wood in winter. After too many times getting your toes that you cannot feel anything it affects you for the rest of your life. 40+ years and still feel it.

About 55-60 degrees F is just right for that kind of labor. So Usually that means October and part of November not that I cut any wood. I burn fuel oil and for the amount used it is not worth it to play around with wood. I enjoy the cutting and using (that I have seen others do) but money has never been so abundant to get into it. Last winter we may have used 350 gallons of fuel with it virtually never going below freezing and maybe kicking the electric on here and there. The first sub-zero snap we had this year the winds were blowing 25-30 MPH so the furnace was never off more than 5 minutes at that time. ACG is correct in that for any unknown wood it is good to let it cure 4-6 months to head off problems such as chimney fires.

Around my neck of the woods, the ticks and chiggers would haul you into the next field if you tried cutting during shirt sleeve weather. I like cutting in the winter, stockpiling for the next season. All the wood we're burning now was CSS early last winter. All dead standing or storm dropped oaks, hickory, and hedge.
