...about 15 minutes ago a series of bright flashes lit the whole place up. Looked like a transformer blew. Then a series of distant explosions. Ran to the window but sky is clear and power is on. Turned on the scanner...transformer explosion reported about ten miles away. Then another and another and another...all over the area and some 20-30 miles distant.

Called PD and they think a meteor may have exploded over the county. They were pretty freaked out. Then they announced it over the fire band because no one can find any transformers blown or power outages. May just be the strangest thing I have ever experienced.

I could of been a meteor do the the quad..something meteor shower going on now. A meteor was on filmed burning up in Minnesota a few weeks back.

Kind of funny, our dogs must have heard it. They were barking like wild things behind the house just before. Wife asked me what I thought the dogs were barking at. I looked up toward the window and the flash occurred. Dogs went silent. Then what sounded like artillery far off. Creepy.

Wife gets up every 10 minutes and looks out the back door. I told her if she sees any tripod like devices moving in threes....let me know.

My dad always tells me of the time when he was 8 or 10 years old walking the half mile back from the woods in the dark on the field lane to bring the cows in for the night from down by the river. He said the cows were walking along ahead of him in the lane, it was pitch black. He said of a sudden the entire sky was lit up brighter than daylight. He was scared and didn't know what to do so he hid under a wagon. He said he swore it was gonna land right there next to him, but he said that he heard the next day it landed in Canada somewhere. And then he said just like that it was dark again. I wonder if the one you saw would have been visible all the way up here or not? If it was, I'm sorry I missed it. People say that you can just watch the video, but that just doesn't give you the same feeling as experiencing it with your own body and mind.

True, but video is as close to the experience as we can get.

Reminds me though of the meteor that hit in Russia a year or two back, shattering windows all over the town. ...I think I would've needed to change my jeans!

I came home from work tonight at about midnite and was up by Ashley and saw two big fragments of something fall from the sky. They looked like falling stars that were coming sraight down. Could be fragments from the first one or part of a meteor shower that went through.

We had something very similar when we were kids in the early sixties. Dad used to walk the dogs after dark, we were all out scattered around, I was walking across the field behind the house when it lit up like daytime as a meteor passed over. We didn't hide just went on into the house.

Approx 1960 saw the Northern Lights here in Southern Illinois - never forget it. Dad said look kids you may never see this again - close to 60 years later, so far he's right.
