Tank heater procedures

For those of you that utilize tank heaters on their tractors.....
Can these get airlocked? Is it recommended/ advised to loosen or remove the radiator cap when you plug them in?

If the heater is lower than the top connection to the engine, and the hoses need to have no high spots in them until they enter that port. Convection makes it work. The cap should be in place, any heat generated usually stays in the block, and little gets to the radiator. Expansion will happen into the headspace in the radiator, but it is irrelevant. Jim
