3020 Snow Blowing

No, its not from this winter since we have hardly enough snow to even need a shovel. This video was shot maybe ten years ago. A friend with his 7 foot snow blower , rear mount converted to front mount on the 3020 JD. That same snow blower is now mounted on his 4020.
3020 and snowblower

Doesn't look like much snow then, either. Sure does beat having to go backwards though! I had a 4010 with the twist-n-look type of blower. What a pain in the neck!

(quoted from post at 10:45:16 01/15/18) Looks good! You can tell you Canadians are real men... around here somebody would have hung a heat houser on the 3020!
Just have to dress up a little. Although that 3020 is now retired and replaced by a 4020 with cab so its even more comfortable working I guess. I have some pictures of the 4020 and blower somewhere I will post if I can find them. Not likely to get a chance for any new pics unless we get some snow. Driest winter here in years.

Found the pics of the 4020 on the snow blower. The same one that was on the 3020 is now on the 4020. It took a few modifications to the push bar and drive line but I hear it works great and is sure nicer than sitting out in the open looking backwards.

(quoted from post at 11:45:56 01/15/18) Is it powered from the front pto?
Yes, the blower ran off the front pto on both tractors so the engine rpm had to be kept down or else that blower would be turning way faster than originally intended on the original 540 gearbox. It works well as the 4020 has way more power than required even at low rpm. Plus very slow forward motion for when the snow gets really deep.

Is there a gearbox to change shaft rotation? I thought front pto turned opposite direction from the rear pto?

That looks great. One problem.....I have the exact blower (260) sitting in the shop and outside a 3010 gas standard. The problem? I am thinking "I could do this"

You are right Scott. And that problem was addressed way back when it was first converted to front mount on the 3020 on a front end loader (148). A little hard to describe but it involves some big sprockets and chain to reverse the direction of the pto shaft so the blower turns the right way.
With a little luck we will get enough snow to bring it out of the shed. And yes, those engine covers are home made.

Don't talk to bad about heat housers. I feed cows every day with a 3020 with a heat houser and today I would not have wanted to be without it. Tom

I absolutely agree Tom. I've spent some time behind a heat houser and it is a whole lot better than sitting out in the open.

I wish John Deere still had the front pto on their newer tractors. It would sure make snowblowing a lot more enjoyable instead of being twisted around driving backwards all the time.
Schulte has a front mount snowblower but it's expensive.

If all the sprockets and idlers are inside a loop of chain, they will all rotate in the same direction. If a sprocket is placed on the outside of the loop, it will rotate in the opposite direction compared to the sprockets inside the loop.

Yes, I believe that is how he reversed the rotation. I don't have any good pictures of that part. Hopefully we will get some snow before winter is over. Enough to bring out the snow blowers. Its our second dry winter in a row.

(quoted from post at 11:26:07 01/16/18) Sorry Rusty6. I see you are in SK not MB.
Not sure about Manitoba but we are in a continuing drought here in South Sask. Going to be a challenge to produce a crop this year if we don't start getting normal precipitation before long.
We had pretty good snow back in 89 when I took these pictures of the 3020 with snow blower mounted on the front end loader.
