I posted this on the Ford board but thought I would post it here as well.
The clutch rod snapped at the 90 deg bend just as I was letting out the clutch, fortunately nothing was in the way but it sure had me thinking about what could have happened if I was inching up to a truck or something. I was able to weld it back together but I don't trust it so I bought a adjustable rod end and a new rod that I threaded the ends on. I am going to install it today it should be a lot better than original.

The same thing happen to me on my Ford work truck back in 1980.
The factory weld broke loose on the clutch linkage just as I was shifting into high gear.
I had to synchronize shift back into town. Good thing there was little traffic and minimal lights.

Dad had the clutch lining come loose and fold/ bind as he pulled into the shed with the tractor many years ago go. He got it shut off with no damage, but he was up against the next machines wheels pretty good by then!

Makes a person think.

I once had the pedal itself break up under the dash on a '76 Ford Mustang II. It had a V6 engine, and the clutch was noticeably harder to push than you would expect. I theorized that when they installed a V6 they needed more clutch, but didn't have room to increase the diameter so they put heavier springs in the pressure plate.

I removed the pedal, welded it up, and reinforced it so it was stronger than new. If the local Ford dealer had seen any others do the same thing, he didn't admit it so maybe mine was a fluke.

Ever bail out of one of those old swather' S with the over running clutch steering system? Lots of fun if they get a bit grabby from sitting over the winter!

I had the clutch cable break on an 86 GMC Brigadier while I was sitting behind cars at a stop light. I thought it was going to hop up on the car in front of me. I was able to jam on the brakes and pull the parking brake at the same time and the engine died. Then I was stuck in traffic trying to figure out how I was gonna get it moved. Finally got traffic to go around me and got it to go into reverse and hit the starter. It started in reverse and I backed it into a parking lot so I and shut it off so I could put a new clutch cable on.

I had a mishap with an Allis Chalmers WC. One time the bolt the pedal pivots on broke from exposure to battery acid and rust while picking up bales. no problem. The other time was throw out bearing went through clutch pressure plate fingers while pulling kids on a hayride. I finished the ride without the clutch, Lucky no accidents

I had a 76 mustang II with 302 v8 only trouble I had with clutch was from dropping the clutch to burn rubber. I have lost clutch in several medium duty trucks always a WTF moment, but never had a real mishap, once was delivering fuel (2004 GMC top kick) at a construction site about 50 mile from the shop, just put in 1st and started engine to make multiple stops and drive it back.
