seriously got the chit scared out of me this morning , put new tank on oxy/ acetylene torch turned the valve all of a sudden a boom , well really not a boom but a blast of air shoots out the screw with a hole on the side of the regulator and wont stop leaking now , I have never had that happen before is something blown inside ? BTW it was minus 12 in the shed

Did you turn it on slowly? Was the regulator backed of when it was shut down? As I recall those being recommended in our safety training for using a torch, there is a lot of energy in one of those tanks!

Our welding supply used to repair them, but no longer do. Too much liability. They said they would send my Victor Oxy regulator out, but they could sell me a new one for about the same price with a new warranty, when all said and done. Mine needed a new diaphragm and one new gauge.

I did the same thing only it was a really hot day . I have a really loud compressor and it was running in a metal building -- I opened the O2 valve and thought I heard air leaking and thought it was the compressor . Wasn't till later when the compressor finally shut down I realized that it was the O2 regulator . I took it to my gas supplier for a fix and they sent it away . Like others have made the point it cost just as much as a new one + it took a long time - near a month as I remember . Felt like I was paralyzed with out the use of my torch. Since then when I see a set of gauges for sale at a flea market I get them so I have a spare should the same happen again. Good idea to keep those torches and gages locked up or hidden when you are away as they make the perfect break in tool for bandits -- cut off locks or even just cut a new door way on your sheds. Even start a fire if they don't know what they are doing.

Sounds like the seat failed, the regulator over pressured, and the safety pop off relieved the excess pressure.

Those are really simple, you can buy the repair kit and repair it yourself.

Just be sure your hands are clean, don't use any type petroleum solvents or sealers.

It will probably be clean inside, but you can brush it out and blow it clean with canned air.

Thanks for the reply's it was cold im thinking must have blown diaphragm , anyway I had another sitting there that worked fine, Ive turned on a torch thousands of times and usually do it slowly I really don't know remember if I did it fast or not but it sure did startle me
