Any body had it yet? The TV and radio news has been all flue all the time for weeks now. With my wifes broken ankle I don't know how many hours we've spent in the hospital and the clinic in the last month but we haven't been sick yet, don't even know of any body that's had it. The hospital has signs up, nobody under 18 years old allowed because of the flue.

We have ben hit with it yet, keeping fingers crossed. This evening the T V said there have been 12 deaths in Oklahoma this season. All ages to. clint

What you have for temperature tonight Clint? 48 degrees at 9:30 in Northern Illinois on Jan. 10

I was at the local clinic today and the had
a sign that said if you had the flu or were
coughing to put on a mask. They had a box
of masks sitting on the counter.

It is 53* here at 11:00 PM in central OK. Temp. hit 60* this afternoon. Very nasty wind .
I would like to talk with you on the phone sometime. We are from The Freeport and Rock City area. clint

the news coverage does the same thing every year. soon it will be hay fever coverage then sunburn coverage then don't slip on fallen leaves then colds then...................................over and over and over again.

According to the news, it's really bad here, the DFW area.

They say 30 people have died in Dallas and Tarant counties.

The Dallas ER's are overflowing, one hospital saw 900 something cases in one day, schools closing for sanitizing.

What's scary about it, it has taken out some young, otherwise healthy people.

I don't usually get the shot, but think I better go get it.

320 million people in the USA. About 10 thousand have the flu. At least that's what internet says.......that's a small %. Media hype

10,000?

The CDC estimates 36,000 DIE from the flu every year - so a I think a few more than 10,000 are getting it.

(quoted from post at 09:57:12 01/11/18) Hmnn, is it swim, swam, swung or flew, flue, flu. Ha.

Flew, flue, and flu all have specific meanings. "Flu" is the generally accepted abbreviation for influenza, which is a disease. Yes - it matters.

Numbers depend on where you look. Some are way high. Some are lower. Depends on what media wants to put out there. Just saying.

I'll second that.

When I was in the Marine Corps, every year they'd send everyone to sick bay for a flu shot. It was not optional.

And every year, I'd be flat on my back with the flu for a week afterwards. I haven't had a flu shot since.

US English language word usage is interesting to say the least.

The flu hasn’t hit my area hard yet but my sis said the nursing home in Davenport IA her MIL is in has restricted visitors because of the bug. I get he shot. My mother got polio before the polio nnalert came out. The nnalert pretty well wiped out polio here in the US, a good example of how well some vaccines work. I know polio virus is pretty much one strain where influenza mutates almost daily but I still have faith in the effectiveness influenza vaccines.

The story I linked to covers that - but the "low" number (depending on the year)reports the number deaths in the 20,000 range - the high is in the 40,000 range.

They say it isn't the actual flu - its just your reaction to the shot. You feel sick, fever, and develop a cough. Sounds like the flu to me.

Our oldest son got flu shots because his immunity was compromised due to his health. He ended up in the PICU two years in a row a week after getting his flu shot - that's when we stopped subjecting him to the shot. The shots usually only have a bout a 30% chance of being effective - the last couple of years they have been about 5% (?) effective - something about the H1N1 strains being harder to make a nnalert for.

Been getting the flu shot for the last five years when I reached 65. Don't go out much in winter. Carry an alcohol wash bottle in car and use when coming out of a public business.

Wife and I both got it. This is the 1st day I’ve felt ok in 2 weeks. She is just now getting better. Really sucks, and with the weather as bad it has been, made t worse.

I did not get the shot. staying away from Drs. and wallyworld. Wife has had something now for the last 2 weeks and cannt shake it. She goes to Drs. and wallyworld.

I think I had the nnalert in early November.

This Saturday I had a mild sore throat that lasted about 10-14 hours. Sunday I began running a fever that lasted until late Tuesday. For two+ days my temp ran up to about 102F. I had to take an nsaid to knock it down. I had no other symptoms other than an occasional twinge of mild pain in my lower right abdomen which I thought might be my appendix, but this disappeared before the fever. I am not sure it was the flu, but this is a high probability .

I had the flu before in about 1998 without the nnalert and it was a lot worse. I caused me to have a major outbreak of fever blisters that covered my chin and was probably reactivated Herpes simplex since influenza lowers the immune response. I never had fever blisters that bad before.

This afternoon the national news said the CDC reported three times the number of cases by this time last year. The mortality statistics from the CDC include some young adults. The exact numbers are difficult to list at this time.

This kind of reminds me of the Spanish flu epidemic of 1918 where young adults died in unexpected numbers.
