Water For The Cows

It looks like work at -22F but really not that bad. I can remember the times when I had to walk a quarter mile to the dugout and chop ice to find water. Then pail it out into a trough for the cattle to drink. Some days they didn't want to face the cold wind (and neither did I) so they licked snow. These days I flip the handle on the hydrant and watch the water flow while they drink.
Cool Water On A Cold Day

for years I have rolled up about 200 feet of rubber hose and throw in basement so I can hook to house and run out to horse tank. Gets this cold its a task to undo hose drain it and get rolled up before water freezes.. LOL Ya I need to get a hydrant in the ground some day where or close to this tank..

I'm ashamed to say I have a 2 gallon per minute spring which runs all year. I checked it one -10F day and although it was frozen over a few hundred feet down the creek it had broken through and the cows were drinking there. I figure it adds a few hundred dollars to the value of my farm.

(quoted from post at 13:01:00 01/10/18) You need to put a heat lamp about two feet above the kitty's water dish to keep it from freezing. That is what I do.
I've considered that or maybe one of those heated pet dishes but its not too hard to just chop out the ice and put in new water each day. Heat lamps in the barn might attract raccoons or something.
