Tell me about a Farmall 350

Sometime next week I am going to look at a 350 Farmall hopefully this will be a more productive trip then the last ones. Anyway tell me about a Farmall 350. The one I am going to look at has brand new rubber all the way around . tin is straight but paint is original and faded realy bad. T/a works. No fast hitch or 3pt. The guy is a "friend of a friend." He is asking $2,800

I have a 350 and really like it. Big
enough to do real work but not too big to
be clumsy. If it weren't for the new tires
I'd say $2800 is plenty for not having a
hitch but replacing tires would probably
cost more than adding a hitch. Straight
sheetmetal and a working TA are also nice
so the price is probably reasonable.

Rubber for a rowcrop will run you a bit over $1000. Don't know what you want to do but paint never pulled a plow. It is nice
to have pride in a tractor that looks nice and I have some of those but they don't get any more work done than the ones in
their work clothes.

Working TA is a asset I think you are looking at $750 or there abouts for parts plus the labor for a double split. That said
about the TA there are two kinds of TA's those that are out and those that are going out. If it is fresh or has been well
cared for all the better.

If you are using it to move stuff around a fasthitch is also a real asset and as has been said they can be added for much less
than a set of tires.

Good luck

I like most of your comments, I take strong exception to your "out or going out" comment. Unless you mean that (like life itself) everything ends up recycled. I know that a TA that, used brutally, can cast through two engine rebuilds from personal experience. My 350U was main tillage and every day use tractor and it still has the original TA and TA clutch. That TA was used by me on the Thanksgiving holiday for hours. Many others have seen similar thousands of hours of constant use. From gearing down under load and slowing for headlands, to starting in road gear TA and shifting. Some do fail, usually from being shifted slowly or not being used at all. With respect, Jim

The 350 Farmall is a modern tractor. It is derived from an H SH 300 series tractor. It is modern in that it has live
Hydraulics and Live PTO, and 10 speeds 2 reverse. They are simple to fix and reliable. With no fst hitch a 3 point can
be easily adapted. It will not have draft control, but it will be very usable when pulling 3pt equipment. I think you
would be hard pressed to find an equivalent tractor for less, and spend way more for a tinny compact new that is 40% the
tractor. If it runs as indicated buy it. Jim

Waiting for the weather and my schedule to line up hopefully next week haven't seen the tractor yet but its not too far out of the way if does turn out to be not as advertised. Just crossing my fingers its not like the last few I've looked at.

I agree. I use the heck out of the T/A on mine that have them. Have not had to work on one yet. Most every round bale I make starts with the T/A.
I think they die from sitting, false Brinell or mis-information on how to use.

They're useful such that in my area it's hard to find a 300 or 350 that's not used up! They enjoyed a long working life due to the features.
Don't be afraid to get one, there are still good examples out there. Look them over like you would any other machine.

Personally I'd rather find one in original bad paint rather than one that's been "fixed up".

My dad bought a new 350 utility Diesel. Ranks right under a 2010D for worst tractor he ever had. Torque went out just after warranty. Traded 350 for 2010 JD. It was junk also. Traded 2010 for a 801 D Ford. Great big step up. Neighbor still has it.

I've had mine for 16 years. I paid $2750 for
it with good rubber. Pretty much the same as
a 350. The 350 has a bit more HP.
Good tractor, no major problems. I did
replace the hydraulic pump as it was getting
weak. It picks up a 990 haybine good now. When I bought it it was red, it is now turning orange.

that tractor looks like it has been well kept. I have gone out and worked on tractors like that one that they look in really bad shape. Nice picture

I bought one one time that had been in a grass fire and burned the back tires off. T/A didn't work,no surprise there. My biggest gripe with that one was the power steering. It barely worked and probably would have been better off without it. Quite a step up from an H though,I'll give it that much.

We know, we know, it isn't an Oliver.......Lot of tractors were just better than Oliver
