Progress On The 53

Got the oil pan off the 53 flathead today and it looks better than expected. Very little rust and still a bit oily. Clean for an old flathead too. They didn't have pcv and tended to sludge up the innards over time. Also located a replacement exhaust manifold for the one that the ears broke off (thanks facebook friends). Now for a little more soaking on the bottom sides of the pistons to see if it will break free.

I always got a lot of satisfaction hearing an old engine that has been stuck for years fire up....

Or like my dad used to say, "Like a puppy on a root." I always liked the old flatheads, and many rigs that had them were only a good radiator away from being a great car.

(quoted from post at 04:07:02 01/08/18) You are like a dog with a bone, I am betting you will have that car driving by late spring.
Well the temp warmed up to almost the freezing point so there was nothing I wanted more than to make a little more progress towards seeing if this old engine will run. I didn't even have time to take the 52 out for a drive.
