Pickup driving redneck

Why is we give a drivers license to anyone that can pay the fee and pass the eye test?
No common sense or respect for others and laws needed.

The simple fact is, there are people who should never be behind the wheel of a vehicle.

I'm reminded of a conversation that occurred when I was a claims adjuster working vehicle service contracts.

A young gal called and talked to one of my fellow adjusters named "Dick".

She, "I think there's something wrong with the car I bought a couple of days ago".

Dick, "What's the problem?"

She, "The needle on the gas gauge is on Empty. It was in the middle when I bought the car".

Dick, "That means you're almost out of gas. Your need to go to a gas station and fill it with gas".

She, "what happens if I run out of gas before I get to a station?"

Dick, "Call the 'Roadside Assistance' number and someone will bring some gas".

She, "If they bring me gas, will I have to pay for it?"

And so it went.

We used to have hilarious conversations on break and at lunch about the sheer stupidity of some of the people actually running loose in public.

around here and I bet where you are many of the drivers don't need no stinkin driver's license. and couldn't qualify anyway. same for insurance.

They are just doing their part to save the environment and stop global warming by saving electricity. Not to mention the savings on parts by not using them and lowering the draw on the alternator also lowering their carbon foot print.

Hoo Boy!!!! You really picked a topic for me to rant on.

with all the other ridiculus mandates the government forces on us,why lights not coming on with the ignition is not one of them escapes me. Motorcycles have had lights on or decades.
Light colored vehicle in fog and snow, just as Johns photos demonstrate.
What reason do people have for not driving with their lights on?
Why when it is dusk to folks drive with only their parking lights on? In ten minutes you are going to need full light any way!

Fuel savings? Please quantify the amount you are saving.
Limited number of light hours in your bulbs? Once again quantify how it is a significant burden.

If you are a non headlight sumbic could you please give me your reasoning for not using lights?

I am guessing good ole AMuricun He man obstinacy is the biggest one.

Yep, gotta be a redneck. Ain't no way city slickers would leave that much room between them and the car in front.

Canadian sold vehicles have had the "auto lights on" for years now, originally were actually the headlights I think but now are a low current draw version of driving lights. Either way, a good idea ..... BUT ..... the tail lights are not on unless you actually switch into headlight mode. So even in daylight hours, automatic front white driving lights, but no red tail lights. A lot of people up here buy new vehicles in the US brand new, before you could bring them back the US driver had to flip the wiring system to the auto-on driving lights working. Cost a few bucks more to get that done but the kits are available, US dealers had them in stock for Canadian sales.

Maybe because the people with brains are getting older and passing away. Why do we need flashing lights warning of an intersection ahead....or STOP signs with flashing LED lights on them? Us old timers just knew what to do....and did it.

I jump back and forth between several vehicles. With my newer pickupe, it is lights on when the key turns. With my van, it is "parking" lights on when the shift lever moves. With my old pickup, they are all manual. With my flatbed, they are full automatic, and with my dump truck, one year older than the flatbed, they are DRL headlights. Gotten stopped a couple times late because the head lights were on, but no tail lights.
If I am coming up on some one so fast I can't see them sans tail lights in any conditions, I am driving too fast.

I spent a lot of time living in Yukon Canada & it is the law that headlites must be on at all times. I have gotten in the habit of turning my headlites on day or night.

I figured a Confederate flag painted across the entire tail gate, NRA window sticker, a couple or three dogs with their heads out the window, a pair of "balls" hanging from the bumper hitch, and a loaded AR-15 hanging in the rear window gun rack.

Funny you mention that Jon, as I have a coworker that actually complains about his automatic headlights. Says it's BS that they come on automatically, since it wears out the alternator and he's the one that will have to pay to replace it. One of those guys you can't explain anything to.

Sort of like white vehicles in snow. I like it when it's powdery snow. It will be boiling around behind my scraper truck, obscuring everything behind me. It's should be very obvious to the oncoming cars since they can't see anything behind the back of my truck, but they come barreling into it and slam on their brakes once they get into it. Sometimes it can be a couple hundred feet behind me with no visibility.

Look at those pictures again.
Any local would know that can not be the causeway bridge.
The causeway is 2 lanes but has no shoulder.

That is I 10 between New Orleans and Laplace where it pokes out into the same lake the causeway crosses.
Those pictures were taken about 4 pm so it was a real foggy day.

Here is the same bridge at the same spot but the picture was taken from the RxR bridge that parallels I 10.

The ones that get me are when it is overcast, late evening, a dark vehicle, two lanes of trafic, they are in the fast lane, you have perfect eyesight, can barely see them, flashing your high beams, throw on the fog lights, and they still just drive by with out lights. Where are the cops when you need them. The other one is going home from work at one in the morning. Car ahead has those darn running lites on. NO TAIL lites. You catch up to theme at a trafic light and toot the horn. Yell over to them they don't have their headlights on. They yell back to F..... OFFF and flip you the bird. When can I install my 50cal. Quad on a swivel mount?

I agree that those folks should have had their lights on. BUT, the statement about where is a cop when you need one is in accurate - at least here in PA.
Simple fact is that while it is a law to have them on when visibility is low, the law is somewhat vague. There is no standard to compare with. Also, like quite a few other violations here, it is a SECONDARY violation in PA. that means that a police officer cannot stop you just for that reason. Policed can only stop you for a PRIMARY violation like speeding, rolling stop, failure top signal or most any other MOVING violation.
