2510 John Deere

Good morning. I am looking for a tractor and loader and am a John Deere guy, mostly old two cyclinders. I have had a couple 3010's good tractors, especially the diesels. A friend has a 2510 with a 48 loader, looks to be in good shape both tractor and loader. I just am not that familiar with the 2510's. From what I can research they have a 3020 frame, but a smaller engine. Anyone have any thoughts or experience with the 2510? Thanks, and have a Merry Christmas

If you liked a 3010 you will be impressed with a 2510. I have owned a dozen or more and have the 2510 diesel I started farming with. The best thing about them is the engine as they were used in 100's of applications so you could easily change it to a diesel if you want. That family of engines stared out in the 2510-2020 and became the 2520-2030 in gas and the diesel went from a 202 to a 219 then 239 and 276. The only issue with a 2510 is they had a four piston hyd pump. It was ok but not great. Many have been changed to the eight piston used in 3020-4020 tractors. If it is working fine but if it gives any problems do not spend any money on it just replace with the better pump. Many trans parts are the same as a 3020. Dad had a 2510 gas for years with a 46A loader and it fed cows every day. Tom

They are decent for 55 horsepower. I have one with a 47 loader, it was gas but has been switched to diesel, very easy conversion. Have been running it 3-4 years now feeding cows and doing other various jobs. What all do you plan on doing with it for work? They can be a bit under powered if worked hard

I have a small acreage, will be light work. Mowing with a brush hog, snow removal, stuff like that, and general use of the loader for easing work on my back. Did you purchase a diesel engine to swap out on yours?

Yes it does but he is comparing it to a 3010 and with the better engine design of the 2510 he will notice no difference between a 3010 and a 2510. A 2510 will do anything a stock 3010 will do. I have used both in the field side by side. Tom

I have a 2510 Gas with a 48 loader. It's a nice tractor to use on a small farm. Mine has ,what I believe they call the syncro transmission. It works fine also. The only problem I had was getting used to the loader controls being on the left side of steering wheel. It is not real handy for me. I've been told that these tractors are quite collectable also.

As was noted below I think you will like the 2510 if you like the 3010.

That leads to the next question, what is the condition of this 50 year old tractor. As is always the case it depends on the care it had so do a good job of checking it out.

Enjoy the pictures.
