OT: Wife's 2013 Ford Edge tires.....

Bought it new off the dealer lot 5 years ago. Liked what I seen on it for tires, and they have not been a disappointment at all. Great traction all year round AWD. Had some problems with one tire going flat, and 2 shops to find the wire in it....would only go flat when parked a certain way.

I have to brag a little here, because this is the first time in my 66 years that I have seen or owned a set that went this far.

Rotated one time, 800 feet of limestone driveway, and some twp. and county roads along with her work route mostly interstate hiway.

We have a new set scheduled to be put on next Tuesday. If I was the one driving it all the time, I'd just see how far I could run these, lol.

Wife's brand new month old '15 AWD Edge got stuck in our driveway in 4-5 inches of snow because of the
miserable Michelin tires. Tires were rotated every 5000 miles which frankly, I do not agree with but dealer
insists. But 39,000 miles was enought, I put new Firestone Destination LE2's on it a week ago. Had the
same tire on her old 2003 AWD Mercury Mountaineer for a couple winters and they got around great. I expect
the Edge will get around much better now.

Had Michelins on my '06 S40 Volvo fwd and they were terrible too, snow, ice, rain, heavy dew, and they
would slip slide around, 72,000 miles and I had enough of them. New Bridgestones on the rear and Firestone
WinterForce tires on the frt drive wheels. I could go thru any snow as long as I didn't drag the bottom of
the car too bad.

I would never buy over-priced over-rated Michelin tires, don't even want them on my new cars anymore. I
got 127,000 miles on a set of 255-85R-16 Firestone Wilderness AT tires on my '96 F-250, wish they still
made them! I could have run them longer but winter was coming and one had a vibration that needed
rebalancing so I just put 4 new Bridgestone Dueler AT's on.

Thats great....Of all the new vehicles we have purchased we have only gotten 40,000 to 50,000 miles..
After that the new replacement tires are usually gone at 20,000 to 30,000 miles..I had some Ford dually
tires that only got 12,000 miles..

Michelin warns you on their web site that the tires on the explorer are...TOO WIDE for the weight of that vehicle and therefore not rated for mud, snow or ice.

There is a formula for the weight vrs foot print of the tire. And when tires get too wide, they loose traction on slippery surfaces quicker. When tires get too thin, they sink and dig holes. There is a sweet spot for tires sizing.. especially if your going for a "touring" tire and long millage, quiet ride and low rolling resistance.

When I had my 2000 F-250 Super Duty, it had the Firestone Steel Tex tires on it.
They lasted up to 93,000 miles before I had to replace them. I was really impressed.

Hi, around '64 I was an asphalt salesman, travelled
around the province. The car was a Buick special
with fireball V6. Quite a light car. I had Dominion
Royal Masters on it. I think there was never a better
tire made, bar none. I don't recall the miles they
went but do remember it was extreme. Anyone
remember those tires? Ed Will Oliver BC

Firestone still makes decent ag tires in the US, so I guess it's good somebody buys their automotive tires and keeps them in business, but it sure won't be me. Firestone's crappy quality has led to two major recalls: the Firestone 500 fiasco nearly bankrupted the company back in the late seventies, resulting in the company's purchase by Bridgestone. Then they did it again in 2000.

When the OEM Firestones on my Silverado wear out, they'll be replaced by Michelins.

What does this have to do with his 2015 Ford Edge?
