Son in law who drives OTR is home this weekend. He and my daughter live up the hill from us. He was at my house about 1PM today when he got a phone call. Seems he bought raffle tickets at a tractor show in Sep with 1st prize being a Farmall H, 2nd being a Farmall pedal tractor and 3rd being a Farmall toy tractor......well he won the H :( . Never did care for letter series Farmalls. Not only that they delivered it about 2:30 this afternoon.

The one with no hair is my son in law. He hauls fuel and keeping his hair like that makes things easier for him! The other guy is the chapter prez for an IH collectors club.

Four or six all sound good to me as I have both. I just don't get to use the H all that much anymore. I would call that very good luck and not rotten luck. Congratulations to him and hope he enjoys it.

Those tractors changed farming when they were introduced. They have done tons of work in their time. Quite a few years ago we found some old Country Gentlemen magazines. In one issue there was a Farmall ad. In this ad, It stated that with a Farmall A you could farm a 100 acres, a Farmall H was a 150 acres, and a Farmall M was over 200 acres. Those men and those tractors knew how to work. Would some one try to do that today? I think not, but still the thought of it is pretty neat.

Jeff the rotten luck is the number of raffle tickets I've purchased through the years and never won. SIL buys tickets for the first time and wins......

Yea I have been trying to explain to people for a couple of years that when those tractors were made farmers would start chores when it was still dark then spend the whole day on a tractor. Then do chores again that evening and often went back to the field. They may have only plowed 10 acres in a day but they spent the entire day on that tractor. Lot of guys today want to treat farming like it's an 8 to 5 job, and they have the equipment to do it.

Looked up the serial number, the H is a 1949.

Hey Rick, I seem to have that same kind of rotten luck as you do. I believe mine is a 1943 but the number is a little hard to make out. Hope he has good luck with it. You are absolutely correct on that. Some around here cover more ground in a day than I could all year. Jeff
