I have a small business, buy and sell small items,as a hobby.i try and answer all phone calls.my number is not published anywhere, just on a recommendation and/or word of mouth advertising.i only have a cell phone,my number is suppose to be on a do not call list.since sept 15 I have gotten 84 calls from 84 different numbers, with no one there,or a snake charmer wanting to sell me insurance, payoff my mortgage, car insurance, car warranty, student loan blah-blah-blah.im tired of it so tonight I'm blocking all calls that aren't a contact in my phone and closing up shop.ill find another hobby that doesn't need a phone...ugh...rant over

Its even better when you end up with the cell phone number of some deadbeat that doesn't pay their bills. I think Taiesha is still giving out my work cell number to her creditors. About a month ago I got a call from a nice lady warning me the power was going to be turned off if I didn't pay up. She didn't know what to say when I told her to go right ahead, I don't give a durn!

I know what you mean, I get those blank calls often. I think they are malfunctioning robo-call machines that keep calling with nothing to say.

But I did hear something on the news today that there is some new technology going into effect that is supposed to shut out most of them.

We'll see...

IIRC it is supposed to take at least a month before you stop getting those calls. I know it has been more but you don't say when you got the calls.

I started keeping track on sept 15 2017.i couldn't begin to guess how many I have gotten since I put my number on a do not call list in 2015.im done,i cant deal with the agrivation anymore,i get random text also.some more info.i do not have a car,i do not have a mortgage,i never went to school to get a loan.but the world is trying to cut me a break...lmao

We call screen our land line. We get 1 legitimate call on Saturday morning from our daughter in Chicago like clockwork. The rest of the week it's mostly spam calls that usually hang up when they get our answering machine. The other day, the caller Id was for a local church. I answered it. It was a robocall telling me I could get a free medical alert, warning me about slipping and falling without anyone around, how risky it was. And it's FREE! I was so mad, I tried to call the church to let them know that someone was spoofing their phone #, not much good that would do. But I got their answering machine saying it was outside of normal business hours (it was 10:00 AM on a Wednesday  ) Anyway, I'm hoping they call again. I'm going to get me one of those FREE medical alerts.

we have our answering gizmo (land line) set at seven (7) rings before it answers. most bogus callers disconnect after four rings. after that about half leave a message and half do not. yes the latest thing is making bogus calls to look local. now we ignore them. you also have to train yourself to not automatically answer your phone. just leave it ring.

telephone company told me those blank calls were telemarketers, there system calls 4 or 5 numbers all at once, first number to answer gets the sales pitch the others get a hang-up

Depending on which phone you have, some have a setting to block calls from certain numbers. I us this on my phone since I get as many calls as you do. Once I block a call they do eventually try another number but it dramatically cuts down on how many get through.

Mine is set at 8 rings. Normally don't get 1 call a day but sometimes a couple. Got a few from a fairly local number starting back in August, Thought it was from a member of the church late wife went to about helping with their labor day festival. Haden't had one for quite a while and this week I got one again. Have to run across house to check number. Got there in time for a hang up, when back to what I was doing and rang again. This time I answered and it was from a girl that I had breifly dated before I met my wife 40 years ago. Turns out she lost her husband 12 years ago, my wife was 2.5 years ago so we are going to meet again in a week or so. It had a name and I did not remember her first name let alone her last name and never knew her married name. Last I saw or heard anything from her was when I went into see a friend in hospital, friend happened to be in same room as her dad that died at that time, when Dad was in and that was back in 92 as Dad died a year later. So some of those hang up calls just might be one that can change your life. She was a nice girl, just we were not right for each other 40 some years ago. I only knew one person with that last name and he is the anouncer for several local tractor shows I go to but his wife would have had no reason even if they had my number to be calling me.

We get about 2 calls a day from the scammers. When our phone rings and it shows up on the caller ID as a number we don't know, we let the answering machine take it. If it's something important they will leave a message and if they do leave a message we can decide how important it is. 99 times out of 100 we don't call them back. I think this cuts down on the calls, because we get very few anymore.

That's what we do. If we don't recognize the number, just let it ring over to voice mail so we can see if it's anything important and decide whether to return the call.

Scammers are getting smart, though. They've figured out how to piggyback local numbers so you think it's a local call. Just for kicks, once in a while I'll answer the phone in Japanese and continue talking in Japanese. It drives them nuts. I'm really not that fluent in Japanese, but I know enough of the language to harass scammers and telemarketers.

telescammers are fun to play with, can cuss them out in couple different languages, learn a few cuss words in return- maybe hindi, maybe russian, for sure a couple Spanish cuss words. My normal greeting is in German, family is used to it, others not so that is a filter. Ask for call back number to be checked with state attorneys office or consumer protection, give them another number to call- it is a states attorney fraud desk number. I don't have caller ID on landline- old phone with no screen so need to answer it for med call backs, prescriptions ready, calls for rides to docs, etc. Get to call them thieves, scammers, some other obscene descriptions- what would have gotten bar fight started in younger days. Telescammer networks have their own 'don't call lists', trouble makers like me and the police hotline numbers that might do a trace back-- the Arizona group hasn't called in couple years now, Baca Raton caller reduced to 1/2 - only couple calls a week from them. Credit card and health insurance calls way down but burial insurance, crematory service prepays have started. I tell them I've made my coffin and sometime that gets a 'HUH?' then hangup. Gravno means?? RN

Makes me wish I knew japanese, but then again I usually don't make sense anyway! I used to answer the call and then set the phone down, it wastes their time then.

Got a call from a scammer.....your computer is infected, etc.etc..etc.. I told him I was so old, didn't know what a comp. was!! after a couple mins of me playing ddumb, he hung up!!!
Got another cal....could hardly understand him. I ask him where he was.....he asked why..I'm just curious, I said. After I persisted about his whereabouts, he hung up.
Someday when there is a screaming bloody murder horror show on tv I want to lay the phone in front of the speaker and leave.
