Inj pump overhauled starts dies - making oil

A friend overhauled the injection pump in my 580 Case backhoe. I got it back together today and it starts, runs 10 - 30 seconds and dies. All lines bled, supply and return lines clear. I thought to check the oil and it is 1" overfull and I haven't added oil since change last year. I am assuming that even as careful as I was, I damaged the butterfly seals but am wondering if that damage can drain the pump quickly enough to shut it off after seconds of running.
Any thoughts appreciated.
Thanks smiley

You have a clogged return somewhere..
Either in the line or the return connector depending on the pump model.
Remove the line completely from the pump & start it..
IF it has a return connector.. the one w/ the glass ball in it.. take THAT OUT TOO & start it..
It'll be the FIRST thing on the top cover..

I would fix the seals first.. BEFORE.. running down the shut off problem..
No sense in having a rebuilt pump if you don't have anything to bolt it to.. just sayin'..

Xs two, return restriction causing the shut down. Simple quick check without removing any fittings is simply loosen the two screw side timing cover allowing fuel out. If it runs without dying with the leak, and shuts down again with the cover tight return restriction is confirmed.

Do you have the installation tube for the seals? If not you should track one down. If your on good terms with a dealer red or green you may be able to talk them into loaning it to you. Those things will drop the seal right in the correct groove undamaged.
