Diesel 165 MF

I have a 165 MF overseas tractor with Perkins 236 engine. It has a miss on no. 1 cyl, put in a new injector, same problem. When I crack the line on no. 1 it gets worse. It starts and runs fine, slobering some. Dont about compression but starter cranks evenly. I don't know what else to do.

A compression check will identify issues with valves or rings as an issue. If there is puffing smoke as #1 passes through where it should fire, it is not firing if it is white smoke, and it is over fueled if it is black. Jim

If it runs worse with the line cracked, that cylinder must be doing something.

Have you looked at the valve train? Maybe a bent pushrod, tight valve lash, broken spring.

It's really better to do a leak down test, but you can do a dry, and wet compression test. Do the first test like normal, then squirt some motor oil into that cylinder (it doesn't take much) then do the compression test again. If the compression goes up some the piston rings aren't sealing properly. On my MF135 with the Perkins diesel has bad piston rings on the number one cylinder, and it acts similar to the way your tractor does (any blue smoke out the exhaust). So my winter time project on my 135, put new sleeves, and pistons in it.
