Made some design changes since last posting. The canopy will now be a 2 poster, rather than 4 poster. I modified and strengthened the rear uprite struts, added some gussets and I am now confident of strength. of the assy.

Looks incredible Loren! If I asked our local shop to do that I would expect to pay $3-4000 for that kind of work!

I'm a carpenter with zero ability to fab something like that. nice job. Wish I could do stuff like that. Fancy deck, or a small barn. Miles of fence, yep. Welding .........not good.

I think you have mentioned the Kubota crating, many times over the years, is this canopy frame from that material in whole or part ? This project will live up to or exceed the others. I like the custom work you did on the other tractors and the firewood equipment, even more that you were able to follow through on building practical equipment for a purpose.

I work at a place with a large steel fabrication shop, doing prison and similar kinds of work on the project management end of it. We have another side of the business for commercial buildings as well. Just the drops or cut offs going to scrap from this place would be very useful, like the Kubota crates you have used to make things. Think you mentioned those are now being recycled.
It's a lot fun to "ponder" building things as you do with the "barley pop" in your work shop. I ask permission on occasion to take a drop or cut off, if I need more I can buy as well. Steel used to be a pain to get sometimes, not so much lately, kind of feeds my imagination on useful things to build.

Nice work Loren !!

Square or rectangular steel tubing in various sizes and wall thickness is readily available at most steel suppliers
I use alot of 1, 1 1/4, 1 1/2 and 2 inch square sizes

I get my new steel from STEEL SALES in Shurburne NY. They deliver in this area on Weds and Fridays. They will form the canopy roof to my specs, for me also out of 16G sheet steel. The steel that I used for the uprites is from them, The Kubota crates are .120 wall tubing. The uprites are .188. When I got done, fabricating the uprite assy., I had only an inch left from a 24' length of 2x2x.188. The triangular design gave the assy. a lot of strength. The attaching bolts are through bolts that pass thru the rear axel also, so it is solidly attached to the tractor.

The shop is 24x40' with a 10x24' tool room on the rear. The limiting factor is the over head height. I can't get my larger cab tractors into it.

I like the 2 post design better than the 4 post that I discussed with you on the phone. It is a much "cleaner" design, and I won't have limbs coming of the front posts and slapping me in the snoot. I am pretty confident that this design would withstand a roll over, but it is very unlikely that it will ever be in a position to test it.

Don't sell yourself short. If you can see wood in your head you can see steel too. Pick up some tools and start practicing. I got my wood butchering from Grandpa on mom's side. Got my metal slivers from Pa, and got the tin bending from Pa's dad. Grandpa could bend and rivet pert near nothing he saw in his head.

It looks very nice Loren. I would have serious doubts in a roll over, but hopefully you will never have to find out. Keep the pics coming. Bob

Bob, For what I use this tractor for, it will never be in a situation where a rollover will be an issue other than being on a hiway and being struck by an idiot driver.
