Corn test plot results

In spite of one of the coolest and wettest summer's in years, corn still managed very good yields, even a bit better than last year's dry weather results. Just over 31 inches of rain this summer from April to October compared to 16 inches last year.As an old neighbour once said ' Any fool can make money farming in good weather's Ben

Corns a great plant. If you plant it in decent conditions in fertile soil fertilize it properly and spray it on time it'll usually handle all sorts of different weather conditions.

A lot of good yields in N.E. Iowa this year. We had plenty of rain until July 20th and then almost nothing until harvest. They say corn is made in July and beans in August so that is probably why the corn was better than the beans. You could tell where the tile lines were and the varying soil as you watched the monitor in the combine as you crossed the field. Good job Ben---Tee

I have a test plot for Dow also but its been too wet to get it out. I hope mine does as good as yours. The day I planted it we got 5 inches of rain and then turned cold. I got ahold of a few bags a new Dow number that went 243 Bu.

i used to do all that plot stuff to sure made you feel good, only problem was though when i actually sold all my crop out of the bins and figure it back to bushels per acre it never was close to what your papers always said, quit doing the plots after that, one reason only what actually comes out of bins is what paid my bills!!!!! thank got i did not use what those yield papers say.today its all rented out and in crp program also. actually have made money now since going this route, make it every year to not just every 5 years or so.

Yeah, the test plot is on a choice spot, the whole field ran about 185. Ontario Farmer paper has some results coming in at an incredible 300 bushels per acre! Ben

Is the elevator going to pay you on the test plot results or what you actually deliver? I have had weigh wagons check yields and never once did the field yield what they said the check strips were yielding. The next time you complain about the corn prices ask yourself if any traders might be viewing this stuff before you go on here bragging your yields.

I don't expect the field to yield what the plot did....as you can see in my other post. Why would any elevator pay you for anything but what you deliver???? Ben
