How Many?????

How many plows have y'all seen with "beauty rings" on the wheels?

I bought this thing on an auction yesterday. There was a JD four bottom plow that sold before this one, and it brought over $700. I bought this one for $250. It appears to be field ready, the moldboards are still partly shiny. I wanted this particular one because I already have a parts plow identical to it.

There's one on the other side, too. Don't know if they're factory, but they fit nice.

Most of our neighbor's wagons had wheel covers back in the sixties but I don't remember any beauty rings. His one son mowed state highway ditches for college money and brought home all kinds of stuff that fell off cars. Come to think of it even the 24T baler had wheel covers.

Dad's new 48 Plymouth had the white what we called splats. Before white wall tires were around I guess.

Could it be the reason they had wheel covers was that the grease caps got lost and it was one way of keeping the dirt out of the bearings?
