Vacuum sealed meat in cardboard box-prevent freezer burn

Had an old timer tell me if you vacuum seal your meat & store that in a cardboard box in freezer, your meat will not freezer burn cause frost won't go past the cardboard. Anybody ever heard that?

I think the vacuum seal does the trick. The plastic membrane keeps the drying and "burn" from the meat. It will not matter if there is frost on the outside of the packaging. Jim

Agreed. It's the vacuum-seal bags that prevent freezer burn. The additional cardboard makes no difference, unless it helps you stack or organize the bags better

Have been doing this for at least 20 years. Zip lock bag, put your food in, add cold water, zip the bag almost shut and then squeeze the air bubble and just enough water to keep the food in water. It will freeze in a nice solid block and never freeze burn.

I rearranged the food to put the new venison on the bottom. I found a package of ham steaks from 2014. No freezer burn. It was tightly wrapped in butcher paper. They tasted good & I don't think anyone would know the difference.

I once found a four year old chicken in our freezer. I inspected the bag it was froze in, found no rips or tears or FB. defrosted it, roasted it and it tasted just fine. AIR is the enemy of frozen and non frozen foods.
