the mag for my jd-h has a broken spring. i have two books but no help on the mag. does the spring need a pre-load? is there a tork for the nut or is there a washer?thanks for any help. wally

You might begin by telling us what mag it has.

If original, C or X WICO you can view parts breakdowns at the DEERE link below.

Once you have a mag model #, more than likely a service manual can be found on the 'net explaining preloading the impulse spring.

Do you live in a oil well area. Here in Southern Illinois there is a mag rebuilder in practically every town.

Take a look at the information below from the [b:654c4848f0]John Deere Electrical Systems - Magneto Ignition Systems[/b:654c4848f0] on the Wico X.

I don't know where you are in Michigan, but there is a very knowledgeable guy in Perry, MI that rebuilt my Wico X mag, and my DLTX 67 Marvel Schebler carburetor. He's still around, I talked to him last August at the tractor show in Oakley. His name is Dale Thompson.
