Insurance for Grain Truck?

What insurance company do you have or recommend for a grain truck?
I'm thinking I only need liability, don't need collision or comprehensive, since it's a 1973.

I think I would like to insure the load, in case of an accident and it spilled. Does your insurance cover the load?

Thank you!

Also, does your insurance company let you buy insurance for just a couple of months, instead of the whole year?[list:e518b82219][/list:u:e518b82219]

We use State Farm. With our Low mileage and 'Multicar' discounts,it costs about 50.00 per year. '68 Chevy C50.

I added my 73 International to my Michigan Farm Bureau policy this fall. By adding an auto policy in addition to my farm policy and homeowners, I actually will be paying less total than I was before, due to discounts.

If you have tags on then you must have insurance. And in Ohio you can buy tags for only a part of year but there is a cost penelaty if you do not renew within I think 10 days after expiration so not cost efective to try to only get for a couple of months at harvest time. And at any time a valid tag they can request proof of insurance on a random bassis. So more depends on the tags in your state than the insurance company.

tree-farmer, your load is covered under your crop ins if you have hail insurance........got two 86 GMC 7000 straight trucks. auto-owners for the farm trucks full coverage at $150.00 yr both trucks

I can't imagine not keeping my straight trucks insured and tagged year around. I have five straight trucks and they get more miles with the back off during the year than they do hauling during harvest. Something that dumps is invaluable year round.

American Family does all of mine as they have a policy that works well on ones that are as old as mine ('35, '54, '55, '58, and '74). I started with them when I was young and not farming so I have just stuck with them for vehicles.

We use the 35 to feed alfalfa bales to new calvers because we can be higher and see everyone easier. It's the only one without a dump bed but the bed on it is more pickup height. It's not like the cows are going to scratch that paint!

I use Auto-Owners Insurance also. Very happy with the service. I have auto, home, farm, farm trucks and umbrella insurance with them.

Have you shopped for insurance lately? We had American Family on everything for years. We recently checked with a local independent agent and she got our insurance bill cut in half.

Michigan Farm bureau must be different than Indiana. I have Farm Bureau with individual policies. If I have an accident I only loose discount on that vehicle.
If they are bundled I loose discount on all vehicles

I just wrote a policy with these people. Cheaper than previous co. Hope service will be good if i ever need it.

Brother has full coverage and stops the liability when he is not using it. State Farm MO.(declaired value)
