I have 2 1980's Ford F250s with 16" pre-metric 8 bolt wheels. Are there basic steel 17" or 18" that will bolt on? I called Discount tire and they claim there are no steel 17 or 18 wheels available.

Those are a 8 on 6.5" bolt pattern. As far as I know GM and ram still use that same bolt pattern. Some internet searching may be the best start and if you wish see if they can order them for you. Good luck.

By memory, you may want to check but I believe there are differences in the center hole of 8 bolt rims. Ford and IHC interchange and will also bolt on Dodge and GM. Dodge will bolt on GM but GM will only fit GM. Not an approved method but on a farm off road trailer a torch or grinder has been used. Leroy

back in 85 on the f250.. there were.. lug piloted rims and hub piloted rims.. depending on which f250 you had. the hd model had the hub piloted rims and the center hole in the rim had to fit exactly on the hub ring as it carried the weight, so this rim must be exact!!!..

the light one, was a lug piloted rim, meaning that the weight was only carried on the lug nuts so the center hole was not as critical. I think the 80 model was a lug piloted rim.. but I would check to be sure.

unless you are really determined to use 17's or 18's, consider 19.5's. Salvage yard near me had 8 lug 19.5's on older Ford pickups that came from the railroad. These trucks ran on the rails on an undercarriage that would be raised and then driven on the road on the tires. Also some single wheel step vans used the 8 lug 19.5's.
