giving up on my first tractor sadly.

hadnt been out on my own very long when I drug home a 1950 j.deere B. Bought it for $300. that was late 90s. Used it to plow snow and did some tractor rides, most likely haven't put 150 hrs on it since I had it. Had some play money last year, overhauled the engine. Bored over 90 thousands. Guy helping me as I was still new to inside the engine and didn't want to miss anything skipped on me 3/4 through restore. Needs a bracket for the one wire alternator. Clutch lever linkage needs bushed or something as the handle is sloppy. Ignition switch. I just cant seem to get it done. But a fella I know approached me last week about an even swap for a farmall A wf with a nice loader that Im not sure was original but is not a home build. Fully hydrolic. Body condition is same as mine, work clothes. Needs rear tires. His dad had overhauled this tractor 2 years ago. It has been used as lifting aide to loading scrap metal as he is a scrapper. Hard to see the old John go but the trade is field ready and wife would be able to drive this without being scared of the bouncing and hand clutch.

Sounds like the JD doesn't need much to get it going ?
If you have the generator bracket all you need to mount an alt. in it is to add a spacer to the bottom alt. bolt to take up the extra room. For a top adjuster bracket I get ones from junked out cars and they seem to fit with a little work.
But an even swap sounds like a reasonable deal to me ? The Farmall A might even be worth a little more as it could make a nice tractor to put a belly mower under.

Look at it as won't take up as much room, tires won't cost as much when you replace.
+ the loader may save you back.. A is a little handy tractor.. But I think the hay rides
are over, unless they are short.

Several of my tractors don't charge and I have removed the gen completely on a few. They will run a long time on a charged battery.

Is the loader the one armed type? The offsets are fun tractors to drive and work on, if you trade, you?ll be be happy and so will your wife.

Loader looks like a standard loader. Arms go to rear axle and there is a formed tube to pass the mounting bolt through like shackles on a car. 2 cylinders and one on the top of the frame to use bucket. Seems like I have seen a similar set up on a ford n series not sure though.

Been a rough patch last couple years. Lost a 17.50 hr job working 4 days to working midnights for 10.Did nothing wrong just new management had different values (as in taking care of their own). Top 7 on seniority list was dismissed within year. At same time Warden diagnosed with pancreas cancer had it removed. Super expensive med as well as now a type 1 diabetic. then this year she had to have a chunk of colin removed with cancer treatments to go with. Radiation did much side effects. Severe pain and uncontrolled toileting has her asking to get a colostomy bag back. (she had one temp while the resection healed). Lots of overtime to keep bills paid and little sleep as I cant count on her to do the light chores that will cause least amount wear on her. Been 2.5 yrs of napping in a chair nearly fully clothed and always being aware what she is doing and being ready to step up. Just being a grown up I guess.
