ready for the freezer now

You sure get some good meat prices back there- I always thought everything in Joisy was supposed to be expensive!

You need one of those food-saver vacuum pack thingies- 2 year old meat is as good as new, no freezer burn. About $150 new, but I have picked up 3 of them at garage sales, most I paid was 5 bucks.

Larry. My wife bought me a vacuum bag machine last year and I use it a lot. When I cook a lot of meat on the big grill I just divide it into smaller portions and vacuum bag it and put it in the freezer. I've even done whole sides of ribs. It's cheaper to buy the bulk rolls of bags and just make them to the size you need.

Larry,
You will love it if you get a vacuum packer! I had one and it was great... but it bit the dust a few years ago... so I need to buy another one.

One caveat: if vacuum packing cookies - be careful how much air you take out of the bag.
My sister was trying to vacuum pack peanut butter cookies to send to her son in the military... and the vacuum packer crushed her first two bags (as they are a more delicate cookie).

I'm not a bit bashful about buying a bunch of whatever(meat, butter, coffee, sugar, etc) and freezing/storing when
the grocery puts on a loss leader sale. Did it a whole bunch when all the kids were home.

My problem is I will still do it, even though there's not as many mouths to feed. My wife, on occasion, has told
me to "Just Stop!!!"

But me and mine aren't going hungry.

I bought a vacuum sealer for exactly this. The giant pork loins or large packs of chops or chicken are often on sale. It's down to just three of us at the house, and the daughter doesn't eat much meat. Just need to remind the wife to occasionally take stuff [i:654c4848f0] out[/i:654c4848f0] of the freezer, rather than just buying more.

I think that's what we have. Only had it a couple of years, and not real frequent use, but no complaints. Pretty sure I got it on sale for less than that.

I get reminded of that too when I bring something home......

"You know there's already 4 packs of (fill in the blank) in the freezer?"

Like I said , we're not going hungry
