How to set injector pump timing on a 3204

I have rebuilt a cat 3204 engine and stuffed up the timing on the injection pump to engine. I have tryed spill timing with no success. The book dosent relate to the type of fuel injection pump i have. Its a tapered shaft pump with NO cover on the side.

All the cats I have timed have a timing bolt plug. Remove the plug then a timing pin goes in. Rotate the engine until the pin drops in. Then you can
remove the pump.

Hello jonesmt86,

I am not familiar with that engine, but I am with the 3208. You need a 1/4" bolt
to insert into the pump to put it on #1 With the engine on #1 as well. I made
the timing pin out of a 1/4" bolt . Just take the head off. A two" or three"
should work. Insert it in the pump until it goes in, then you should be good to
go,

Guido.

Two timing pins required, one for the pump,
and one for the engine.

The one time I did one, the timing pins got
it close, but not quite right. Had to use a
timing light to get it right, which is
easier said than done with the tapered
drive.
