OT-What kind of plant is this?

Was on a grassland area today and this plant was very common. The berries are small, about the size of a garden pea. There were a couple of seeds in each soft berry that reminded me of tomato seeds. The juice in the berry looked tan/brown. Can you tell me a little bit about it?

Don't know but my dad planted a couple of those in the fence row near the barn. I took the chainsaw to then two weeks ago. They never got trimmed and got in the way of mowing the grass.

I think it could be Winterberry. Google it compare the leaves and growing habits. I have some on the farm where is doesn't get cut or mowed.

Bush honeysuckle. Another invasive plant courtesy of China/Asia.
I think SweetFeet has the 'official' name ;-)

if you have smart phone download Picture This app. You just take a pic of the plant or flower and it looks it up and identifies it. It is very handy app.Chuck

It's in our neighborhood and it's very invasive. The big bushes you can cut and immediately soak the stump with Tordon.
It spreads through berries and root. It's the last thing green in the fall and first in the spring. I can pull up by hand if they're not too big.

Not certain from the photo (need photo of entire plant) but it looks like autumn olive.

Google it.

Sorry, just have the one photo. Grows 5-6 ft. tall and most of the stems weren't over an inch wide, mostly smaller.
The comments about it being an invasive plant is correct, though. I was thinking about putting a few plants on my acreage, but I'm afraid it would take over or I'd have to hit it with Tordan every year. I was just thinking about something for the birds to eat, but this plant might be more trouble than it would be worth.

Autumn olive is a bush type tree. It can grow to 15+ ft.

It is native to Asia and invasive here.

Must be something else.

I still lean toward Honeysuckle (of some variety)... as dad had planted some Honeysuckle that developed red berries in fall on the farm where I grew up - and your photo looks very much like them.

But just did some reading and found that Autumn Olive should have a silvery backside on its leaves, and speckled scabs on the berry skins. I think that the Autumn Olive leaves look slightly more elongated than the various Honeysuckle leaves.

Honeysuckle berries can make humans ill.

Sounds like Autumn Olive berries MIGHT be edible.

It could be that both plants will "take over the world".... as both are said to be invasive. :)
