hi Electric wires vs. animal health

My brother has 5 cows o ut of 35 that have knots on their skull in various places ,,.nothing bigger than Half the size of a ladel spoon , and never have they opened up or bled , there is only one knot on any of his 5 cows afflicted with it..,The herd is as healthy as the best herds around ./../he has a good pasture , good mineral and feeds ground ear corn ,... been running cattle for over 30 yrs on the same place with hi tension hi voltage main carrier wire over the pasture ... Ocassionally over the yrs. this knotheads problem would show up ,sometime it would go away .. last time he sold a couple older cows with knots , he said the price was give away..he is blaming the hi tension wire electric that crosses his farm ,..we welcome your comments ..

If the genetics of the herd is all coming from the same (or related) breeding stock, I would look there. Chemicals applied (even next door), or toxic weeds could be a factor. Tumors (benign or cancer) would show up on other areas as well as the head! I do not find fault with the Lines. Jim

I remember an episode of Picket Fences where high tension wires made the cow's utter explode all over the sheriff.

I would not dismiss the power line. I have one running through one of my farms and when you walk or drive under it with a cabless tractor sometimes the hair on my arms stands up and dances. Happened to my Dad too. Funny thing is, it is not all the time. Don't know if that could cause the cow problem or not. Now they are proposing doubling the power going through the line or running a separate line on other side of township. During question/answer meeting, I told them run it anywhere else but mine. I've paid my dues for last 50 years. Let someone else wonder about the hair raising thing.

btdt on a humid day spreading fertilizer further up the Same electric line on a different field.got a carpet shock when i got on the tractor . i have heard my help tell of sparks flying at nite while tossing hay bales on the stakt hi wagon before a rain ,..no grounds on the wagon or the spreader ,. the friction movement of the urea hitting the grass seemed to amplify the effect...23 yrs ago , i owned another 28 acre field that had the line over it.. did not have it paid for when the 1st wife split,. so i sold it.. that is one sale i do not regret .. My Brother switched bulls,. so maybe that will help.although the problem is not showing in the calves . he told me he is afraid the meat mite carry a tumor into the food chain , so he dont want to eat them ,We Just Dont know What to believe .But , he is not gonna sell these cows in that condition ,and get next to nuthin for a otherwise good animal ..he would rather them die calving in old age

Does your brother have any explanation why the transmission lines should cause this problem?

Does he get the same knots on his own head? Or does he use a protective tinfoil hat?

Laugh if you will. I witnessed over time how new high tension electric wires made problems with sheep which bedded down under the wires. I will add due to hills the wires were very low in summer. The wires were so low no one would drive a tall piece of equipment under as some did receive arcing.

Nope, he always was that way before he moved there, LOL .Around These Parts it is getting to be common knowledge to avoid the electric transmission lines .. the lines are completely across the center of his cow pasture , 600 ft from his new 30 yr old house he built back when he bought the 55 farm .. side note FACTS ,.The old home he sold off is alot closer to the lines,.. The current residents are drug adicts, panic disorder types ,32 yrs ago the fella went nutz and had to go to a mental hospital ,about 35 yrs ago, the farmer that had it was yr behind me in school , they raised feedrer pigs til his wife got severely depressed ,,then one day without warning he shot and kilt himself.. the house across the road belonged to my 1st wifes uncle who got brain cancer and died about 15 yrs ago, his wife was severely depressed for yrs.. but got better when she sold the house moved away and remarried . further down along the same angle of the line,.melononoma and brain cancer and lmphoma took out the junk yard operator and his wife, the yard is under the lines .. his son is addicted to drugs and cant hold a job,. you never know what kind of price he will quote ,..my dad told my brother when he was thinking of buying the farm ,,. SELL that DAMHouse, and build a new one away from those damlines . aint been nuthin good ever come from it ,..he seems to be rite .. my brother and i see much more than coincidenses

We have a big new line going across some of our property, but it's DC. That might be different? Maybe we won't notice the hum underneath? One time my wife and I were under a huge power line when it was misting rain a little, and you could really feel it.

I put up a woven wire fence that crossed under a power line in two different places about 8-10 years ago.Now the wires for about 20 ft under both power lines is rusted up while the rest of the fence has not rusted at all.

115,000 volt lines bisect the land here. I avoid being around them in the hot humid summer weather. One reason is, I noticed during hunting season, while holding a rifle at about port arms, you can get a static spark going from your finger to the trigger guard, cold and dry weather during November. That kind of voltage reaches out to you, it's going to be ugly what happens. Power company will always tell you, even though its part of a field, just stay out from under them.

Around here they did a local news story about some really high voltage lines that were too close to a subdivision. The reporter held up a 4 foot fluorescent bulb in his hand, and it flickered. EMF,s ---- maybe!

Well they say that it happens and can be unhealthy. Does it? I don't know. One of the countless times that I've worked at power plants just happened to be in the 138 KV yard splicing a cable near the hand off to the grid and it was a cold day, like in the 30's and I was sweating bullets for no reason. I was in and out of that area all day and I was ok until each time in that area. I swore that I was being microwaved, but decades later I'm still alive. Another time in a 365 KV yard every time I touched my truck that wasn't grounded in any fashion, it discharged through me like a capacitor to ground and since I wear leather boots with rubber souls, it just had to be the difference in potential between the truck and me. I was more negative. That got to be a bit much. I'd open a door, spark, "YOUCH!". Trucks in yards are grounded for reasons. I've only worked at nukes a couple of times in all of my years, but never in a 768 KV yard, so I don't know what to expect in one of those. Your brother could be correct. I've never had any knots show up and I don't glow at night, but far from me to tell him that he's not correct. If you google high tension lines my guess is that you'll find stuff on unhealthy magnetic fields and the sort.

DC? What around you is DC? Interestingly enough there is or was like a four or sixteen square block area somewhere in the city of New York that is DC, but as far as I know the only one like it. It was left that way as a tribute to Thomas Edison that wanted the world to be DC instead of AC. He actually pitched that AC would be too dangerous to use and as proof, pointed out that convicted murderers were executed using AC...so, AC would kill customers. That area of NY, everything is DC. Household appliances, street lights, everything. I could google it and I'm sure I could find something about it, but am thinking that its probably still there.

well , loox like you can agree after all , Honestly , i did not believe the guys when they came in to the barn with last load of hay they pikt up at dark claiming they were sparking one another if they touched . but my Dad Did not doubt it .because he seen it before ..if you live near a wire health problems seem more than a Coincidence in our area ..

have high voltage running thru farm since 1973. first thing we noticed was the electric fence wouldnt work. finally figured out the em field was neutralizing the fencer, put a ground wire on top of all the steel posts and solved the problem. your right, holding a flourescent light bulb in your hand, it will light from your hand up to top. in the 80s had a guy stop in (we live on state hwy) and told us that he wouldnt pasture his cattle under them high wires, got me to thinking about it, as we have had some abortions in the heifers, decided to move fence out from the power lines. yes you will get shocks from hooking up wagons, espically with steel roofs, you kinda forget about it till you get the shock, neighbor has it happen when borrows my equipment. we currently have a cell phone tower between the lines and the barn, dont notice anything from that tho

This new power line is going to bring power from Manitoba hydro to the MN iron range, 750mw at 500Kv. Apparently with modern technology it's better to run it as DC, it will be converted to AC before use.

Just google it. They lay eggs under the skin and there's a big lump from the grub that grows from it.

Definitely not,no one sprays on my property and anyway there is no brush to spray on a fence line that keeps in goats with garden on one side and hay field on the other.
