730 =Commander ?

The below post mirrors my latest experience with the local deere dealer , The easy going Son of the Original owner is still there as a salesman , and survived after 2 owners after his dad passed away 20 yrs ago . I went in there with my CASE hat on ..they have had a tractor for over 6 monthes on the lot i always thought would be neat to have . SO, I , asked them how they would trade their diesel 6000 Ford for my smooth running 730 gas,?. the fella thought a while,.and said we got that priced a 4 grand. and it aint perfect , nearly half the county has been here kikin its tires ,. the last serious buyer discovered the 3pt lever wont move , and all workt fine when it came here on a trade . whats your 730 like ? , smooth runnin dependable gasser , eagle hitch , good power steering ,hydraulics,clutch , gears ,seat , sheet metal ,bareffot rear tires ,. he told me he would need probably need 2 grand ,. but will come and see ,.. historically they never did a cleanup inventory there ,.consingment auction ?

Kinda like when a used car dealer sets a red Corvette on the lot. The car is there to bring extra foot traffic into the office. Until the leaves start to drop in October, the last car they are interested in selling is that red Vette.

Yeah but how many people looking at that $4000 Ford are going to say, "Nah, I'll buy that $25,000 Kubota instead!" I'm thinking the number is close to zero.

It's a lot of worthless foot traffic, tire kickers, and a lot of wasted time for the sales staff.

At least the right kind of Corvette is comparable in value to other vehicles on the lot, including new vehicles. You might convince someone with the cake to buy that Vette that he might be happier in a new pickup truck or SUV. Not so with someone looking at a $4000 tractor on a lot where the next step up is over 5 times more expensive.

Name brand dealer won't trade you even money for tractors that are near equal value. They need to take in some cash on the deal or it won't happen. I managed to trade a 3010 Deere to a jockey for an Oliver 1600,but I had to haul,load and unload so they didn't have to touch it. Even then,they had been asking $2500 for the Oliver and put $4500 on the Deere after they got it. Even if they got $4500 by the way,I was way more than satisfied that I got the better end of the bargain.
