yep almost that time.

Have not had to plow much snow here on the coast, (once in 10 years) but our daughter is moving out of town in eastern Oregon and needs a snow plow.
I have an 8N and a VAC with a FEL. I do have a 46" blade off of a garden tractor that I can add on to and mount on the FEL on the VAC
or
buy a back blade for the 8N (not that expensive)
or
buy a back blade for the VAC
also
When using a back blade do you back up with it or drive through he snow and plow foward,or both?

Back up. Shallow you can drive over but stand the chance of actually
lifting the arse end of the tractor right off of the ground. Now you
are really screwed.

I agree with RayP. Chains on a smaller tractor for sure.
The inevitable ice we have here in Michigan pretty much requires them.
I got away without the chains last year, but I had brand new
tires and wheel weights. A cab is nice too. Even if engine heated. ;)

I have a snowblower for the back of the larger tractor too.
But I have to leave a couple inches of snow when I use it.
Otherwise it throws rocks off the gravel driveways everywhere.
Not that it doesn't have shoes, but gravel driveways aren't level.
Especially in the winter time.
Car windows, houses, house windows, I only use it when needed.
It works great on cement or blacktop though.

Walkways and the like I do with "mini-me".
It has ice chains on the rear tires and weights on the back.

I'm not worried too much about snow today, windy and a hot 91 degrees, not supposed to be below 80 until next Wed. Seems hot for the middle of Sept. in N Illinois.

I've plowed lots of snow with the same 6' back blade on either an 8N (no chains) or a Kubota B1750HST CUT with F & R chains. The FWA Kubota is FAR superior. Though lighter than the 8N, it is even superior without the chains.

With your 8N or VAC, you will need chains for any serious snow, and steering will become an issue, especially on non-level surfaces.

That said, a front plow is much preferred to a back blade.

Recently, I bought a Kubota RTV-X1100C with front plow so will be retiring the back blade set up.

Chains for sure, and a V plough on a FEL.
Makes steering easier! Will post a photo
later if I can find it! Jim

Here's a thought ? Isn't Bryce up in that area ? Is your daughter single ? Maybe you can get him to go visit ? LOL. He can put a snow plow on that GMC duramax.
