1953 John Deere 50

got a chance to buy a 1953 John Deere 50 tractor the motor is loose not running bad tires all around still in its work clothes the man drove it in the shed about 10 years ago and forgot about it till now and wants it gone he's asking $500 for it is it worth that price? considering it doesn't run? not sure about the number series tractors thanks Howard

No, it's not worth $500. But if you'll pass along the seller's information I will take it off his hands so as to not make him suffer any more embarrassment. I'm just a nice guy.

what about $1400 for a John Deere 60 with power steering and live PTO and a 45 loader on it motor is loose but hasn't run in about 10 years not sure what year it is thanks Howard

Make sure they are complete tractors.
Many that set around here are missing the carb and/or Mag.
Both are far more expensive to replace than they are to repair.
And repairing them isn't all that cheap either. Neither are tires.

The 50 doesn't have independent PTO?
My '53 does, but as I understand it, it was an option.
I've just never seen one in person without it.
Many without the Deere 3PT option. Mine included.

"they are complete and original tractors just sat a little to long"

In that case, in my area, they would both be good deals.

Sounds like good prices to me ? If they are full of antifreeze (indicating nothing froze and broke and/or leaked internally) and the gas tanks not all gooed up they just may fire right up ?
