Ford 2n starting problems

Ford 2N starting problems figured out, crank the engine a few times then bump the choke, started right up and ran fine, I then sold it, headache gone.

What you described is the correct way to start them. That's why
the choke is spring loaded to the Off position. So you don't flood it.
All new parts on a tractor that runs fine as long as the operator
starts it correctly. Sounds like somebody got a good deal.

Haha, the trusty trick with ours is full throttle full
choke,6 rolls than choke in a few more and it's
running.

How's your compression Philip?
If compression is good you may have week spark or
a fuel restriction, or possibly just need a carb rebuild?

This is my old beater starting for the first time of the day.

You are right on the good deal and my headache is gone for Henry Ford made a bunch of headaches for people. Finally came up with an 8N with a
side distributor.

9N or 2N are nothing but headaches, glad mine is gone, now I can get a good tractor oh wait I have a good tractor(Kubota)

"Well for one thing my name isn't Philip, so you replied to the wrong post."

Difference between Modern View and Classic View I suppose.
I was replying to Philip D obviously.

I realize you have sold your tractor. Your choice. No worries.
I've bought and sold many of them over the years.

For other N owners who may read this thread, Yesterday's Tractors
has a forum dedicated to the N series Fords where you can get
specific help with these tractors if you want it. Here's a [b:f51382fa4d]Link[/b:f51382fa4d]

The folks there will help you troubleshoot any problems without
throwing a ton of money at it. Saves a lot of frustration. So does
obtaining and reading the manuals. Most are free to download.

They were the best selling tractor in America for a reason, and
they're still here proving it 70+ years later. Limited in capability
due to weight and horsepower of course, but for what they were
designed to do, they are great machines.

So are many of the others. Here are a few of mine.

Forty, WHY be a "troll"? Your little Ford with a carburetor was no better or no worse or harder to live with than every other carbureted, simple breaker points ignition tractor or car or truck of that era, no matter WHAT manufacturer made them.

Even young kids back then knew how to operate a choke and finnesse a simple machine into starting, if they needed to.

It's YOUR loss for not appreciating a CLASSIC and mastering it.

How do you think the plastic parts of your little orange imported thing will hold up when it's as old as your hated Ford, and what do you think parts availability will be?

Lol. Your orange wonder couldn't harrow the fields those old Fords have ploughed. Lol.

When I was a kid I loved servicing the points and plugs and setting timing on the cars. It always amazes me when the old farts today can't deal with something so simple as a point ignition and carbureted tractor. Both my brother and I could start and get to run any tractor on the place in any weather. These old guys are the first to complain about the millennial generation too, obviously they have nothing to teach them since they don't know it themselves!
