Any way to remove chalky / faded paint?

Is there any way besides rubbing compound to remove old chalky / faded paint and leave the original paint intact? Ive tried rubbing compound but it is at its limit and doesnt remove any more.

These Kits seem to work well to clean/polish and seal faded and oxidized paint. Remember that the paint may be thinner in exposed areas and subject to near removal in some cases. An obscure location to test outcomes might be pretty thick. Best of luck. Do not paint over these products without wax stripping and 600 grit wet sanding. Jim

Bad idea. 40 years ago, I worked for a contractor who wiped his excavators (Koering 666 and 875 Insley) with diesel fuel when things were slow. The shine would last for a couple of days, then would look worse than the faded paint. All the dirt and dust would stick to the machine and you needed soap water and a power washer to get it clean again. There probably was some rust prevention benefit though.

What kind of paint: older tractor; modern vehicle with clear coat, latex house paint, etc?

Here ya go. Try this stuff that I saw an auto detailer useing. What an unbelievable differance. Not cheap.

I have used a product called Colorback on Enamel paint and it will bring the color back and make it shine. It is kind of hit and miss with some thing that has been repainted. OEM paint would usually turn out well. It is not cheap. Here is their web site. I have not seen it in any store and usually just bought it from the web site.
