I was going to a sale last Sat. and I backed my pickup out of the garage and went around the corner to hook my trailer up and I saw a white Chevy pickup I did not recognize in front of my shop and the walk-in door open. So I drove over and went in and here was my wife's brother putting bottles of beer in my shop fridge. I said "what the hell you doing?" Oh-hi he said. we went fishing in Minn. last week and I know you drink that off breed stuff so I thought I would add to it. Here he was putting bottles of Grain Belt in my fridge--I did not know they made it anymore. He had a good laugh and left. It was hot at the sale and when I got home I opened one of them "Belts" and I found it is one on my favorite beers--COLD AND FREE! Made in New Ulm Minn.-Thanks bil John---Tee

Any time a BIL put's beer in your fridge instead of cleaning it out,you better cover your hinny cause the other shoe is about to drop. LOL

big tee- I've been up North and have experienced your 'cavalier' attitude towards beer. Heck, y'all even drink one at lunch.

Down here, Beer is considered the Devils liquid (LOL).

I just don't get it.

Fun to see that you enjoy some Grain Belt. It is one of our more fun and somewhat famous products from here in Minnesota. You may enjoy some the vintage Hamm's beer television commercials that can be found on Youtube.

Grain Belt Premium is always in my fridge at the farm, ice cold it sure takes you to that special place after a hard days work.

That brings back memories of fishing in Minnesota years ago. I remember a bar in Alexandria built out of concrete blocks. It had a Grain Belt label painted on the side. Another regional beer was Schells. Don't know if they still make it. The big one was Schmidt's. If you could drink it you is one tuff bird.

How did the auction go??? I was going to go but the boys wanted to get started chopping. I figured good tools usually bring good money anyway.

At snowmobile camp most guys (and gals) drink the big name brews. I and a few others like the Microbrews. So one of the bottom drawers in the fridge is the repository for the left over microbrews. There is often some really good ale in there.

Rhinelander made just brewed just up the road in monroe wi.
i think i have some in fridge i need to take a look see

Kind of a fan of Grain Belt. August Schells out of New Ulm Minn picked up the brand and have been doing good with it.

Here in SD it's still around. Pretty alright stuff. Local country tavern still stocks it... Still see some signs/advertising for it. It's the go-to beer when you're feeling fancy. Or nostalgic. Or bored.

Schells is still made. I just finished a Schells Dark. Another beer I don't hear anything about anymore is Blatz.

last Hamm's I had was in 1962. Never heard of it since. Guy from Michigan's UP brought it down.

My wife and I were out at a hole-in-the-wall bar one time and a bachelor neighbor of mine was also there. As I paid the bill, I told the waitress to give my bachelor neighbor a Schlitz. A few days later my neighbor said that it was one of the worst beers that he ever drank. Of course, being a tightwad, he couldn't throw it away. That was over a year ago and he still razzes me about it. I just tell him that the chicks dig it. A few months ago, I saw some Hamms being sold at the local WalMart. I didn't buy any. Whenever my wife visits her mom in Texas, I have her bring back some Lone Star longnecks. The last time she bought some, the lady selling it to her said that Lone Star was so bad even the local desperate drinkers wouldn't touch it. Meh, it's a reminder to me that there are better beers out there.

Big Tee,
Grain belt beer is made about 12 miles from me at the August Schell brewery. Glad you enjoyed it sir.

I happen to be one of those desperate Texas drinkers!! I have been touching Lone Star every chance I get for about 55 years now, since I was 16. Granted, it is not exactly the same as when it was made in San Antonio, but I am still a die hard Lone Star drinker.

We had Christmas here for my wife's side years ago and the wife saw that there was a rebate on Hamms beer when she was grocery shopping and bought a couple of cases just a in case we needed it. We everybody peed and moaned but when they all went home it was all gone. FROM THE LAND OF SKY BLUE WATERS--HAMMS BEER!!!!!---Tee

Better have one today. Heard on the radio 126 years ago today was the death of August Schell. Cheers.

My wife was raised in Texas. She says that when she was in high school, everybody there drank Schlitz!
I guess if they still sell it, somebody out there still drinks it.

Speaking of beer, or in this case, BAD beer, does anybody remember when the generic products first came out? For example, a bag of potato chips came in a white bag with black stenciled lettering that pretty much just said "Potato Chips". This was probably in the middle 70s. Anyway, my dad was a real tightwad frugal buyer. I grew up on a dairy farm and dad had one policy when we put up alfalfa, which were small bales, BTW. Dad would buy as much beer as my two brothers and I could drink while we were putting up alfalfa. There was one catch: It was the cheapest beer that he could find. The beer that I remember most was generic beer. This stuff came in a white can with the stenciled lettering of "Beer". The stuff was made by Falstaff (the small lettering on the can said so), it was obviously very cheap (because my dad bought it) and I remember the very first can of it would give me a headache. My brothers and I could put away a lot of beer during those days, even if I was under age. I guess I put up with the headaches because I had to be a big man and drink beer like my brothers. If you do a Google search of "generic, white label beer" you'll see a picture of how the label used to look.

Good-Dad in-law wanted 80--bidding stopped at 75--the auctioneer and he huddled --sold. Machines and stuff sold good.---Tee

Drinking Schells brand Fort Road Helles tonight. Love the stuff and grain belt is also a regular staple. It's a great MN beer.
