We had such a bad spring with rain nearly everyday that our corn planting was delayed until June. As a result a lot of the corn did not even germinate. I had just about given the crop up as a loss but along came one of my sons who wants to make a corn maze.
Now to say that I was skeptical would be an understatement, I just did not believe it would work but in spite of my misgivings I gave him a field of poor looking corn to play with. He jumped right in and went to planning the maze and enlisted the support of a lot of other promoters. The result, several hundred people have already paid to wander through one of my corn fields and enjoy the pleasant hayride which is part of the experience.
Is it working? I would guess that it is as several people have been back for a second visit and several schools are using the maze as a place for a field trip. I do not get any revenue from the maze but the corn has rebounded and I should harvest a decent crop and that was all that I had ever wanted. Happy farming.
