Photos from Arcadia, Md show and home-made tractor

I'll post some of the pics I took the other day in Arcadia, Maryland. Big show, lots of machines. Many duplicates of different tractors which seem to be the most popular at shows--farmalls, farmall cubs, etc. Not once have I seen my tractor--a fairly mundane Massey-Ferguson F40. Only one I've seen in person is the one I own.

The big red and green IHC is a home-made model from two machinists with over 40 years experience. Forgot to ask how long it took to build, but they have a book of blueprints looked to be about 100 pages or so. According to the man sitting on the tractor, they did all the castings, fabrication, built the wheels and so on. They didn't scavenge parts from other machines.

Thanks for the pix of the row of Panzers. Our folks
had a Panzer & side mower setup just like the one
closest to the camera. The tractor is in their barn,
hasn't been run for 30 yrs, mower was gone long
before that. My brother & I put a lot of seat time on
ithat machine. That little Briggs when combined
with that drivetrain, could really pull hard.

Thanks for the replies—glad you enjoyed!

Been a few years since I’ve gone to this show as well—glad I carved some time out of work—could have stayed a little longer.

Traditional Farmer, don’t know who the big AC crawler belongs to but it was one of my favorite machines there. Always like the big crawlers with cable controls and this was massive.

Michael Soldan, that machine was for roadwork. As Deere Marke mentioned, it was something called a “Formgrader.” I remember seeing that written somewhere on or around it.

WI Dan—I had hard time getting my mind around two guys building such a thing. Said it was second time they showed it—so I’m guessing they’ve been retired at least ten years so maybe the tractor took about ten years or so to build? Maybe more. I’m sure it consumed a lot of their waking—and sleeping—time.

3000OH—thanks for the comment about the Panzers. I was really wondering how effective that huge mower was alongside that little tractor. Seems the Panzers have their own following at all the shows. Never owned one but I like the mini-tractors.

I was about 6 or 7 when the mower on the Panzer was declared unusable. Not enough HP, way too much weight hung to one side. Our father
then tried to turn it into a tow-behind, with a neighbor's welding help. Tried to graft an army surplus 10 hp Briggs onto the deck but that
didn't work out well, either. By then, he had two indentured servants who were old enough (my brother & I !!) and we got pressed into
service behind walk-behind mowers.

The Panzer soldiered on, though. It had a dozer blade that was used a lot and a dump trailer, adapted from a Gravely trailer, that hauled
lord-knows how many tons of dirt, gravel, and rock as our folks (and us two boys) built a house, a loonnnng concrete circular driveway, a
pool, and many other projects. It also served as a puller in our backyard contests.

Good memories. Thanks.
