Left chicken water on again. I need a timer which is water powered or spring powered. This thing of constant pain and long term medicine combined with old age is not fun! Anyone know of such a device?

There are several on Amazon - look under [b:0808e27e54]"Water Timers"[/b:0808e27e54]. Just browse through the listings, and make sure to read the comments near the bottom. Some units got very good reviews because folks found little things to do that make their unit perform better or make it more reliable.

My wife has a couple of them for her yard watering. Wind them up and walk away. She is neither old or feeble minded, but won't turn the water off till the well runs dry.

I've had 2 of these for about 4-5 years now.

Think I changed the batteries once just because I thought it was time.

They have performed flawlessly. I do bring them in in the winter though, don't think any of them are freeze proof.
Water Timers

Every time my grandpa would go out to feed and water his cows (to set in his ways for a fountain) he had this red flashing light the was made for a bicycle or something with twine tied around it that he hung on his rear view mirror. In the winter in the dark he would know from a mile away but in the daylight he could see it as soon as he started to get in the truck and knew to think if he shut the hydrant off or not. To my knowledge he never did leave it on after that

Most 'Do it', big box stores have them. I have used one for two years, to water my garden, wind it up and walk away. can go two hours. (no batteries)

Yep - I'm getting pretty forgetful myself and am not even on any long term medicine (YET)!

I remember that my G'pa still had some cows out at the farm after he moved into town. They needed water everyday and he had an old steel tank near the windmill tower. The windmill did not work any more but he had a one cylinder Brigs hooked to a pump jack for keeping water in the tank. Since he didn't want to stay there and watch the engine run he had figured out how much gas it took to fill the tank when it was partly filled SO he would pour that amount into the Brigs' gas tank, start it pumping and then get in his rig and head for town!
