lower farm bout a mile away, unlocked barn to pull bean head home with gator, pulled it outside and decided its to much weight to pull on gravel roads. went back this morn with truck[3 days later] all the sheat metal is gone, lights are gone, belt is gone on cutter bar side..been easer for me if they would have taken the head and cart, now I got to fix this thing. cant turn it in to ins co, to many clames now

Well letting things set out where there is no one around is asking for trouble. I hate thieves but they are a fact of life anymore. I feel for you but if your insurance is not going to cover it then why keep that company???

Sure makes you mad.... I have been stolen from at least three times. My shed is right across the road from McDonalds, lights on all night and traffic all the time. First they stole my head cart, luckily the bean head was on the combine on another farm. Then they cut all the extension cords and wire that they could get there hands on. cut cords off right at the motors. Sure wish they had gotten zapped real good. Then they stole a new wagon and gravity box that I hadn't even used yet. The sheriffs say they probably even steal in the middle of the day, cause none of the neighbors are even farmers anymore and just drive down the road and don't look around or would know if something didn't look right. Worst of it is it was all probably cut up to 3' scrap.

My insurance company raised my deductible, but they may have done it company wide. too bad you can't keep a running total.

ins will cover but they will cancil me, over the years had 30-35 clames on things gettin stolen on my fourth ins company now, soon nobody will cover me

Sorry about your loss. I know what you mean about the Insurance Companies. Had one claim on my business insurance liability and was canceled.Hope to see you at Centerburg today.

The lights are something that can be used on almost anything and can be sold almost anywhere.

Stealing a drive belt and sheet metal off a bean head are some very specific items that have practically no other use except on another bean head. Those items are practically worthless to anyone who does not have a similar bean head or who does not sell parts for them, so the resale market for those items is extremely small and limited. I would suspect that either another farmer or a machinery dealer is the thief, or one of those is paying some lowlife to steal those items for them.

I would try to keep equipment out of sight and locked up. To some people greed is a powerful drug.

I worked for a shop that had a big roll up door. One morning came to work door was sitting inside the shop. Equipment gone. One night some boards full of nails just happened to fall behind the door. Next morning found a dodge dully sitting in the bay with six flat tires. Owner had a hard time explaining how his truck got there. Since he never reported it stolen.

We had a rash of this in the late 70s when scrap prices were high, I think it is for drugs now, rural drug abuse is rampant.

All that is sad,,but if you "Really" want trouble,,just shoot one of them stealing from you,,or just shoot at them,,we don't dare try to protect what is ours....the thief has more rights than we do...

(quoted from post at 11:11:25 09/17/17) Time to set up some cameras.
Right you are!!

We don't have problems with thieves out here. Anyone out this far is probably lost! *lol* However, we have a neighbor who won't keep his cows in fence, then set a fire that burned our property and barn. Now have over 2 dozen cameras and multiple recorders.

The nails in boards reminds me of a friend whose uncle had a gate to his farm on a woods path. If you didn't mind a few scratches, you could squeeze around one side, brushing tree limbs. They buried 2" ? 8" boards with 16 penny nails on both sides of the path next to the trees. Pulled up one morning to go hunting and a 4WD truck set there with four flat tires!! Fellow had the gall as they unlocked the gate to ask them to call a wrecker, they kept quiet, truck was gone when they came out.

I have a neighbor that was leasing some land for deer hunting about a mile down the road from me, probably was ten or fifteen years ago now, he was having trouble with theft of stands and trespassing, people driving around his gates. He laid him some boards out with spikes sticking up, he covered the booby trap with pine straw, first person he caught with 4 flat tires was a game warden

That sucks !Just a thought has anybody thought to ask local dealers or machinery wreckers in a 100 mile radius who's priced that stuff recently?. It seems like real odd stuff to steal for beer or drug money don't you think ! If they were that stupid try the local classifieds or scrap yards it might turn up this week somewhere,or they might see it come in if it's not there now.
Regards Robert

Cameras don't do any good in Warren County Iowa, pal was doing landscaping at a new church. His equipment, tractors disk etc was stolen. Whole thing was caught on camera, thieves came out plain as day, and were known. Equipment was never recovered, thieves were never arrested. Good luck with your theft problem.

A local landscaper was cutting a lawn in town,,,parked his truck and trailer along the road.Someone stole his weedwacker off the trailer right while he was mowing

Gee, 35 claims and you just leave things setting around for days.
And then wonder why it gone.

Maybe someday you'll learn.

A buddy of mine who lives in Ontario, California went home to lunch one day. Parked his pickup in the driveway by his house, locked it, went in and ate lunch. Came out 20 minutes later and his pickup was gone. Never did find it.

And the insurance company looks at the accounts loss ratio and says " why are we keeping this insured"? It works both ways.
