John Deere 5320 PTO issue

I've been bushoging with my JD 5320 and today for some reason the bush hog was occasionally bogging down my tractor. The bush hog is a 7' pull type and it was causing the tractor to drop from 2000 rpm down to 1500 rpm and the tractor would start to put out a blue smoke. I would turn off the PTO and the tractor would speed back to the 2000 rpm. I stop the tractor and see if the tractor would speed back up without turning the PTO off and only way tractor would return to set speed was to turn off the PTO. When I did turn off the PTO the bush hog took about 25 to 30 seconds to idle down and stop. So with very little load on the tractor PTO the engine was bogging down.

Anyone have suggestions as to what my problem might be?

Thanks
Larry

Have you checked or cleaned your air filter lately.

Blue would indicate burning oil, but could be caused by dirty air filter and high vacuum pulling oil into combustion cylinders.

Also change the fuel filter. The 5000 series tractors are real sensitive on that. Is your tractor a cab model or open station??? If it is an open station check the condition of the rubber fuel lines. They are known to deteriorate internally and cause fuel flow issues. I have a JD 5210 and have had to replace fuel supply and return lines.
