JD 60 with Power Block

My friend who collects '2 bangers' has one. Says that it has a lot more ponies than a regular 60. It's a real horse, really chugs up the hills.Barks louder, too.

I had a tractor magazine that had the power block bore sizes and I can not find it. You could bore a 2-cyl. Block .125". But I think the power blocks were .250"??? How much hp gain that would be I don't know. Dad had one in his 1951 A. They did use more gas that is for sure.

Looking at the Power-Block page in a 1957 Tractor Supply Catalog one of the claims made is -QUOTE- The 1947 (late) A model was rated at 34.14 horsepower at the drawbar. With the installation of the new Precision Power-Block, drawbar horsepower is increased to over 50 H.P.-UNQUOTE-

Displacement was increased from 321 to 381 cubic inches, a 19% increase and compression was increased from 5.6 to 6.5 to 1, a 16% increase.

For $134.50 exchange you got the block, 5-ring pistons, pins and rings.

This is out of a 65 TSC Blue Book. 6' bore up from 5 1/2" and 381 CU as against 321 orignal. Gas in 60 was 6.5 to 1, LP was 8.1 to 1. 18 to 23 DB HP increase. This includes the A. Chart says 41 orignal to 53 power block for a 60 and for the B & 50 to 5", up from 4 1/5 inch or 4 11/16", G 6 1/2" up from 6 1/8" and 70 6 1/2" up from 5 7/8". Don't know how this would play out on a dyno but what Tractor Supply Company claimed.

Part number for a power block to fit late A-60 from Tractor Supply 2-0666-MO shipping weight 175 lbs. Price in the 1970 Blue Book $88.95. Increased the cubes from 321 to 381 and increased bore from 5.5" to 6". Compression ratio 6.5 to 1 and they claimed it increased horsepower between 18 and 23 at the drawbar. All info straight out of the 1970 Blue Book
