Finished chopping silage today. Had some of the toys out for a few loads. I have a small collection of older choppers and wagons. I have two Deere No 12's one with hay head and the one pictured with a two row head. The 4020 my Dad bought new in 1968. We have several Chuckwagons including a 110,112 and several 122's. I also have an Allis 780 and an AC silage wagon. I started farming with a Deere 35 chopper and now have another one as well. I would like to add an IH 550 chopper and either an IH 51 wagon or a 105. Great stuff! I have a case 300 chopper that I use sometimes. It is an IH/Case hybrid similar to a 550 IH. The first chopper I remember dad using was a case 300. I have both the 2 row corn head and hay head for it.

Are there any differences between the Case 300 and the IH 550? I remember seeing some Case machines and always thought they were the same. Dad had an IH 350 that he green chopped with and I can still here the noise the little drive dogs made when you shut down the chopper. It would go on for several minutes as the cutterheads really turned fast on them. Tom

You said you had a Deere 35 chopper. Dad had one for a while. Thought it was a 35. Had a 5 foot frail type head on it. Opened the rear door and cut weeds off of new clover and blow them out on the ground.

I have an Allis pull type chopper from the late 40's and an Allis long hopper blower with engine on. Stored inside, very nice condition. I am about 40 miles east of you. e-mail is open.

My brothers and I cut with a Case 300 a lot of years. Any breakdowns we had were fixed with parts from IH cutters in a salvage yard. Accidently ran a grease gun through it while opening a field. Many parts and much beer needed to repair it all from salvage IH cutters.

Man we made a lot of feed with those Case 300s. Had one back from 72-74 and then later on we bought one with a parts machine in 80 that we used till 85.
Had the 2 row corn head and pulled it with a Case 800 both times although one year it was so wet we had to rent a 2090 to get through the fields.
Nice to see on still in use.

Mine has the case eagle on most of the castings such as the clamp on the spout and main gear box. So at least some parts are made by case. I did get some gears and other parts from an IH corn head that were the same.

Nice. We have an IH 50 in the barn but the paint has been coming off. I would like to repaint even if I used it in the field. We had two IH model 61 wagons and would not mind finding one to collect. Our originals dad sold to the one neighbor back during the mid-1970's. I would also like to find another IH 40 table blower like we had back in the day. Another neighbor had an AC 780. It would be nice to have a field day consisting of the various brands from the 1960's.

I had a S-717. Lots of 717-S717-718's in this area at one time. You could hear one of those suckers chopping 5 miles away, and if you were chopping with dull knives you could add another mile or two. Lol!
