Mackinac Bridge crossing

I have been crossing the bridge a lot lately. I am building a cabin in the U.P. Crossing has been kind of "iffy" this past week or so. First it was closed for high winds on one trip. Then on another we had to leave early since it closed for the Labor Day Bridge-walk . Then? My mistake, but we got stuck in the tractor crossing. At least the tractors only took one and and we could still cross. Near the end of the bridge on the St. Ignace side, a tractor was broke down with oil all over the road. Some other guy who came to "help" drove right into the vehicle traffic lane and almost caused an disaster.

I took some video and stills while driving and crossing. I was in the woods for near a week with no Internet and no computer. Just got back. And when we crossed this time? Another crossing! This time for "joggers."

It certainly was a nice day for it. One of the nicest days we've had all summer. I think the hurricanes down south have sucked away all our rain and cold. In fact, the UP has been nicer then our place in the lower peninsula. We came home to find half our tomatoes and pumpkins killed by frost in Presque Isle County (a little below the bridge).

Thanks for posting pictures of it. These remind me to NEVER go up there ! That is about the last place I'd want to be driving a tractor !
Give me a field to plow or disc with nobody around ! That's like heaven to me.

It is a dummy in the front bucket. It caught my eye too until I got up close and realized it was a fake guy up front.

I don't care if it's a fake guy or not. This is not the thing to promote in anyway shape or form!
Idiots, no wonder some people think we're a bunch of hicks.

Rant over,

LArry

Actually, I came up with the idea of the "Loader-Couch" back in 2005 after attending Half Century of Progress #2. All the crazy people tearing around in golf carts, now in utility vehicles, I figured a full size tractor with a heavy-duty loader and a comfortable couch type seat complete with seat belts, foot rests, head rests, would be a perfect way to get around. Somebody parks their golf cart or utv in front something you want to watch, park behind them and raise the loader and look over the top of them. People of all ages spend BIG money at amusement parks and county/state fairs to ride rides with less safety equipment.

I don't really see the "Tragedy" you speak of. Total over-reaction to something you know nothing about.

Things are safe on that ride. No riders unless the tractor has a buddy seat, and it has to be approved by the organizers.

Maybe you can use them to harvest milk weed. I'd heard there was a market for milk weed seed. lol

All I see is someone promoting a little fun. You sound like an old lady in a nursing home.

Amen! Doesn't take much to get some peoples' shorts in a twist, I reckon!

Dang! Not much milkweed left around here. Darn Roundup. Now, if they can find a use for fleabane......Ben

Thanks for posting those. Looked like those folks were thoroughly enjoying themselves with some seat time and gorgeous scenery.

can't believe you put these two statements in the same post, much less one immediately following the other. It just seems hypocritical to me.
