I got up this morning and my 1995 Dodge 2500 diesel pickup was gone . It was locked and the keys was not in it . After we went to bed about 10 or so that's when it happened. Man i had lots of tools and things in there. I live in a pretty good area never thought it would happen. I had my gates locked but they ran right through the fence luckly the cows did not get out. How hard is it to open the locked door and unlock the steering wheel and start the pickup ?

Wow,that's a horrible thing to wake up to. Hopefully they find it for you unharmed. It's unbelievable what some people will do without caring about the impact it has on others.

Wow, thats the same truck & year I have. Made me look out the window and make sure mine was still there. It is! Sure hope you get yours back OK. I would hate to lose mine even if it is old, It still runs like a champ.

That really bites! Man, I hate to hear that happen to anyone.
I'm sure you didn't need that aggravation to start the day.
Hope they find your truck and contents in perfect shape.
The occupants, well, in not so good shape.

A guy around here was stealing cars and trucks and using them to break into people's sheds. I lost a brand new $200 paint sprayer. He made sure not to take anything of major value or break into people's house. When he was done he'd dump the vehicle, hock what he stole and buy drugs. He even stole someone's truck that had a rifle hanging in it. He was smart enough not to touch it. The police knew who it was and had plenty of witnesses but amazingly couldn't find him. When they did catch up with him he was convicted of 17 counts of car theft. He was sentenced to a little over a year in prison. He's got about a month left and he'll be released and back at it.

In Texas the coyotes steal F250 - 350 4x4 crew cabs to transport illegal immigrants and drugs. I've had several friends lose trucks. One of the friend who works in San Antonio has lost 2. All it takes is a screwdriver.

Can't say about the steering wheel and getting it started but, I can open almost any vehicle in under 1 minute with the tools we keep on our apparatus. You wouldn't believe how many times a week we get some ding bat that locks her baby in a running car.

Too late now but you can get an inline fuel lock so the vehicle runs out of fuel quickly or if its like my Isuzu pickup I have a separate switch for the electric fuel pump
won't even start if its not on.

I was in a Toyota dealership last week and the person in front of me was quoted almost $500 to replace the key/remote. What is the point of the chipped keys and other anti-theft devices that cost hundreds to replace if they can still steal cars in just minutes?

I hate a thief, dont ever steal from me because I will SHOOT you around here you never get your stuf back that was stolen

thats one of the most highly sought after trucks out there, not sure why thieves like the 94 to 98 models, but they do, my guess is being mechanical, there easy to swipe if there factory stock, slim jim the door, slide hammer the ignition and use a screwdriver to start er, a well equipped low life can get it in about a minute and a half, newer electronic trucks are harder to get running, as mentioned a hidden fuel shut off helps stop that, its getting to where a person has to put a ranch hand bumper on the truck, and chain the thing to a big tree with a logging chain to keep whats his anymore , hope you get it back in running condition

When I was around 15. Dad caught two guys trying to steal a truck from the work barn. He slammed the door had mom call the sheriff. As they were getting arrested. Dad showed them why they were having a hard time getting it started. Opened the hood no engine. It had been pulled the day before.Everyone was laughing at them.

Where I live I have heard stories of people getting caught stealing. Never seen again. Which may be true as they found a car buried in the woods one year.

Few years ago my friend had his Dodge 1 ton of about that year stolen out of his yard at night, they also hooked up his trailer and took it to a neighboring farm to a hidden building and got a lot of stuff there. His truck was found 70 mile to south, trailer has not been found. No dammage to his truck tho as it was not locked.

I had my Buick stolen out of my place years ago. It's an empty feeling. I hope you get your truck back. Start looking at Craigs list for tools, for sale. Stan

They may have stolen it just for the engine. Around here, you don't have to have a title to scrap a vehicle that is 10 years old or older. My guess is they will pull the motor and try to scrap the truck.

If your a member of the Cummins Diesel Forum post it there in the 2nd gen section.
There's a several members on that site that are really into those trucks.
Good 95-98 Dodge's with 12 valve Cummins are one of the most sought after trucks out there.

If your not a member send me the details on the truck and I'll post it for you.

It did not take them more then two min. to get in fire it up and were gone . the only way to SLOW THEM down is to have a master Kill switch and a hidden fuel shut off . If it will not start or shuts down shortly after start up they will usually leave it and RUN , now if the bring a way of towing it then i geuss you have to resort to more drastic masseurs Like pop up spike strips to flatten there tires or a 50 cal H E round thru there engine block . keeping a couple venomousness snakes layen on the seat . Remember locks are to keep honest people honest and nothing short of a well placed round will deter the criminal . You can place hidden cameras all over the place and all this will do is give you something to look at and i may give the law something to go by . Like they really care . Several years back on the coldest night of the year just before Christmas soome one stole my one friends skid steer out of the barn , his farm sets between a main state highway and a township road to the rear , They drove in from the back to the base of the one hill and walked up behind the corn cribs and peaked around them , then walked to the barn from behind the corn cribs to the barn and opened the door fired up the skid steed and drove straight out the door up over the hill and down the other side straight out to the back road and loaded it and were gone , now here is the best part where they loaded it was more or less between two homes across the road from my buddys farm . Many years ago my uncle lost not one not two but three tractors . One was stolen the night of a local tractor pull and this was back when most of us did not have trucks or trailers to haul them so we drove them sometimes up to 25 miles to a pull. Thief's crooks low lifes don't want to mess around they want to be in and out before you get your pants on or even get one foot out of bed . So the harder you make it for them the better it is for you , something as simple as turning the fuel off , a master power disconnect a master fuel solenoid switch to keep power away from the solenoid , may cost ya a starter or you may have to charge the batterys . dogs , but they will kill dogs , motion detector lighting motion dector alarms that they don't hear . And if you go this route then all alarm wiring should be placed under ground so again it makes it harder for them to defeat . Just hiding keys don't get the job done as with equipment keys stop and think about it here if you have a john deere key how many pieces of Deere equipment will that one key fit and the same goes for the rest. Myself due to my days of buying and selling , equipment repair and from my days of heavy hauling i have a key that will fit 99.9% of everything out there that runs on tires or tracks . As may times you would go to haul a piece of equipment and it was selfservice loading and NO KEYS , so you had to resort to HOT wire , man that takes time and at times ( not many) of explaining why your HOT wiring to a cop here again not many but a couple , so having the KEYS made it easier even when loading in the dead of night and a cop does show up and he askes what you doing and are you suppose to be doing this and when you show him KEYS then it ok . Because a vary large portion of them don't know that oh gee one size fits all here . Now this may seam cold hearted but the only cure for these people is the 3 S rule . Like one depute told me if ya do then make sure you PLANT the body deeper the 25 feet as we don't dig deeper then that .

My old 1997 Ford F150 long bed supercab with over 350+k miles on it got stolen in Feburary of this year, filed a police report, and expected to never see it again. Three month later the officer that wrote the report calls me, and said my truck was found, and on its way to the city impound. I went to impound yard to see it, and expected to see it totaled out. Much to my surprise the sides were scrapped up some, windshield, and side window broken with 4 flat tires. Looked inside the truck, and it was cleaned out really good (except for the broken glass). Got in it put the ignition key in, and it started right up (they even changed the engine oil, and the oil filter). Got it back home, put $900.00 in it to fix what they broke plus some tires, I've been driving it ever since (its just a farm truck).

I read once where a car thief bragged to a judge, "I can unlock your car and drive off with it without a key faster than you can with your key".

And they can do it.

Hi, my farm truck was stolen too. About 5 yrs ago. The injector pump was getting weak so I put an inline fuel pump in it. The easiest place to put it was under the dash. You couldn't see it. To get very far from here you have to go up a hill. I knew he wouldn't get far. I started looking and found it about 7 mi away. They burned out the clutch. The police and ins company accused me of stealing it my self. They gave me $1200 for it. I put anew clutch in it and its still going. They ran over 2 lawn mow ers too. I didn't get a dime for them. Sorry to hear about your loss.
I agree with most that thieves are lowlife scum.
Supposedly, the chips in the keys as well as the other electronic anti-theft devices should slow them down some. Without the chip in the key, computer will not allow the engine to start. I wonder how they are getting around this?

Mtractor- sorry that happened. Hope you get it back (and tools). s10 Blazer was stolen years ago. Can still remember how felt looking down at the broken glass on the parking lot.

ptfarmer- police did the same to me. Found it at the end of their joyride beat up and out of gas.

Just wondering if the op has heard from law enforcement. If it was kids they usually dump it when they run out of fuel. Hope you get it back and intact.
