Case 385 Tractor Flywheel

I need a new flywheel for my Case 385 tractor. We have the tractor apart and looked at the flywheel but there is no part number on it. I have searched every site I can find and have had no luck locating one. Yesterday's Tractor rep told me to post a message on this forum and maybe someone has a parts manual for a 385 and can help with a part number. I would greatly appreciate any help anyone can provide. Thanks!!

It's an International Harvester 385 or a Case International 385.

There was no case 385.

I am not sure. I am not very tractor savvy. Even though it is an old tractor, it is in good shape and I thought the parts would be easily found. Boy, was I wrong!

Let me ask you,are you sure it can't be refinished. I had one that looked rough ,and my guy cleaned her up . Just asking. CM

Refinishing might be our only option. Someone suggested taking it to a brake and clutch shop. Does that sound like a reasonable plan? Any other ideas on what type of business can refinish a flywheel?

Many auto parts store do them, as will your local automotive machine shop. Resurfacing a fly wheel is not something that you do because you can't find a new on though, it is nearly always done when replacing a clutch unless it is in very good condition. So far as cracks, they can grind them pretty well out but they don't have to be taken out together.

Just had flywheel and clutch done in a 495. Machine shop charged about $160 to resurface flywheel.

Thanks for the help! I really appreciate it. Going to take flywheel to clutch shop today and see what they can do to resurface it. Also heard from one tractor supply place way up north that had the flywheel that I need but it is in a tractor and they won't pull it until I decide to buy it. $475 plus shipping. Kind of afraid to do that. Found a place in England that supposedly has one. Have emailed to get information about it. Never dreamed this repair would be so complicated. Can get clutch and pressure plate all day long...but flywheel has been nightmare. I appreciate the advice!!! Y'all have been super helpful!

Just got back from clutch shop. He said that he did flywheel work like this 5-6 times a week. Said Case is notorious for having this issue. He will resurface flywheel, add extra pads to new clutch plate to accommodate surface removal. Will put on a new ring gear and bearings so I will be good to go! I so appreciate everyone helping me! We are an all girl operation and are not mechanically inclined! I thank y'all so much for taking your time to help me!! Bless y'all!!

When you reassemble everything, make sure you face the clutch disc correctly. There is a flywheel side and a pressure plate side. Also look at your pto splines that the pressure plate meshes with. That shaft is a common wear point, and usually needs replaced. If it strips out,you lose pto,and all hydraulics including steering.
Secondly, when you reassemble the 2 halves of the tractor together,it is easier to hang the pressure plate and disc on the shafts, and bolt the pressure plate to the flywheel by reaching thru the hand hole underneath, after bolting the tractor together.Good luck,Mark.

Will pass this info along to the man working on my tractor. Thank you so much for your help! I appreciate it!
