Multiple Tractors and Batteries!!!!!

Some of you folks have a number of tractors. It's handy to have several tractors for various chores or hobby reasons.

How do you reliably maintain the batteries in these tractors when they can set for months between use and when you need them, you need it to start without going through the hassle of jumping the tractor or continuously buying new batteries!

How do affordably maintain batteries in a fleet of tractors?

Just curious.

Thanks!
Bill

Everything I have, trucks, tractors, lawn equipment 6,12 or 24 volt all sit with.
Deltran battery maintainers.

Batteries last a long time.
I just had one finally die after 13 years of service.

Schumacher battery maintainers, $20 each at Walmart. I've had a few go bad on me but replacing one of these at $20 is cheaper than replacing batteries at $60+ each.

Only run them during the winter. During the summer I don't seem to have issues with batteries going flat.

At the start of the off season, I fully charge each battery then disconnect the ground cable (often with a quick disconnect). Re-check battery voltages every month or two and recharge as needed. Remove those batteries that are not close enough to an electric outlet that they can be recharged. Batteries seem to last several years longer if they don't get fully discharged and don't freeze.

I have noticed some of the machines with alternators will have a slow drain while others will not ? My old stuff with generators don't drain unless there is a BIG problem with them.
Most of my stuff I don't run I do not even keep batteries in them. Just stick one in when needed.

(quoted from post at 12:16:47 09/13/17) We install battery disconnect switches on everything, no more dead batteries and no chance of a fire.

This ^^^^ and a solar battery maintainer if kept outdoors or a plug in battery maintainer if indoor storage.

Those little solar charges are impressive. A few amps a day makes a huge difference.

For things that get used once in a while I just start an run once a month. Things that almost never get used get the battery pulled and put on a shelf. I have a battery maintainer that I hook up to multiple batteries on that shelf.

Just bought $487.00 worth of batteries last week at Rural King,If I had bought them anywhere else probably would have much more, got to get 3 more and I'll be done for awhile.I keep float chargers on all batteries I have.Had very good luck with R K batteries.

Those battery maintainers work pretty good, but I have had 2 batteries, a 6 volt and a 12 volt, go bad while setting and connected to a maintainer. In both situations, the maintainer indicated all was well. The 12 volt was many years old. the 6 volt only a few years old.

I use a solar charger on my bucket truck
and it seems to work well. Planning on a
couple more for my storage shed that
doesn't have juice.

I have 20 cars, trucks, RVs, and tractors. All with at least one battery and a few with three. I have 1.5 amp maintainers on them all - except for our daily drivers. The $20 units from Walmart have worked fine.
