OT: USS Indianapolis Found

Yes, heard it on the radio a couple of hours ago. What a total cluster of naval command snafu. They didn't even give them enough fuel to continue zig zag on their way to an instalation the didn't even need to go to.

One of the guys that made it out of that sinking lives hear in my home town. He probably is 93 or so now. He does public speaking and to hear his story is unbelievable. Floated at sea for days, found a crate of cabbage floating and I think that is what saved his life. He has a book out that details it all, some courage that is for sure.

A few years back I had the fortune to speak with a member of the crew, I was humbled by this man, not the thing I would wish to experience..... No escorts, radio blackout.... no follow-up on being overdue. Navy really dropped the ball at the cost of so many lives. All to many mistakes in such a vast ocean and huge war. Craig, USS Coral Sea CV-43

My father was on a fleet tug. When Indy was reported over due. He told me several tugs and ships wanted to go looking for her. But they were told no by Naval command. Told them they didn't want to put ships at risk. The group leader said were at war were already at risk. But Naval Commaned still said no. He always blamed Naval Command pencil pushers. For the death of the crew.
