jm and Kubota guys

Going to look at a B9200 Kubota that doesn't run. Looked up specs on tractor data and there was a note that these had an issue with cam gears. Anyone able to elaborate on the issue? Didn't find much info online. Do the gears just wear out or break? If it is to the point that it doesn't run anymore are there likely bent valves or possibly worse. Its priced reasonable to spend some money on it, but I'm just kind of curious how involved it may get.

Thanks, Jeff

Just wondering is it the big brother to my b8200 made sometime in the 80's ? Just curious. I think fat Jay on the forum has an 8200 also.

B9200 is one of the best tractors KUBOTA ever made or offered. In that they gave you too much tractor for the money back then. If it is hydrostatic it has a manual 3 speed transmission behind the hydro to give it high med and low ranges. Thing is last ones were made in 1987 so it is 30 years old but tons of parts out there. I do not know where you got the information on bad or cam gears wearing. I was a dealer back in the days and sold a lot of the 62,82,and 92 000 tractors and cant remember any engine failures related to cam gears but who knows, internet is a funny thing one guy mentions it then seems ever one has experienced the same thing. Most of the failures were folks not cleaning the radiator , running it hot and cracking the head. If (and most were ) it is four wheel drive that is a plus. If you get it let me know. jm.

Well, went and looked and brought it home. It cranked over and sounded like it only had compression on a cylinder or 2. Didn't see any movement on rocker arms through the oil fill hole. Couldn't wait to look and see what the deal was so I ripped it apart. Idler gear that drives cam and injector pump is toast. The cam gear looks a little tough too. Also has 8 bent push rods. Pistons look fine. Valves don't look bent, but will have check them out.

Jeff I have tons of the old engines and blocks might have your timing gear will have to look. One thing I noticed right off the wrong front tires / or the wrong rear tires. Pretty important on the 4 wheel drive to keep the right ratio between front and rear. If it has power steering you will love that tractor. E mail is open.
