NAA with live power

I have a couple of tractors that had been saved by a Ford tractor mechanic because they were oddities. One is an NAA with live power, and the other is an 8N with live power.I understand how the NAA setup works, having worked on it in the past, but I'm not sure of the 8N setup.Would it have had a 2 stage clutch?Or,a lever operated clutch for the PTO.It has a long lever on the opposite side for the PTO.Also, would the hydraulics be live for this tractor? My old parts books don't show any parts for a live power tractor.I didn't even know they existed in this series.

The so-called "live PTO" option for use with an 8N, has a manually operated traction disconnect clutch.

The operating lever is on the left side.

The hydraulic pump remains PTO driven and stops when the foot clutch is depressed.

Now that makes sense.I should have thought of that,as I took care of a Case that had a setup like that.If the hydraulics are not live I won't have a use for that tractor.I'll do the NAA over instead. The NAA I have supposedly does have true live PTO.It has a little pump piggybacked onto the back of the main pump, with a little line running to a valve that operates a clutch pack for the PTO.I never considered that it could be a traction disconnect.

I guess I'll have to do some investigating as to what I actually have. The owner TOLD me this 8N had live power, but with some memory problems going on there I know that could be completely wrong.I did just sit on the tractor to unload it and did discover something interesting. The PTO lever on the left looks and works normally, but there is a long lever on the right that I've never seen before. It actually pokes you in the back of the leg when you get on or step on the brake pedal. On the round cover it comes out of it is marked, reduction,on that cover.I just can't remember seeing a lever that long and in the way on a Ford tractor. When I move it there is a positive shift/slide of something it is operating.

Some folks might call it live power because the pump will continue to run if you stop the tractor using the traction disconnect rather than the foot clutch.

This lever is on the right, about a foot long,so I can see that being a traction disconnect. What I can't figure out is why it is marked, reduction.I have no idea why they would have come up with that terminology for that function.

I just cleaned that right side cover with the long lever. On the top it says, reduction. On the bottom it says, rotory. It has an address cast into it too.East Hernandon,Essex,England.Just never saw that setup before.
